the elf and the man were sitting in the cold, soft grass on the edge of the hill. they were gazing at the millions of stars in the sky stretching above them.
legolas was sitting behind his friend, braiding aragorn's hair in little locks. his hands were moving slowly but surely, as he slid his fingers through his companion's raven hair. he was smiling softly, listening to the crickets and their breathing, which was finally calm after the nightmares of the battlefield.
aragorn sat with his arms on his knees, his fingers connecting his two hands. he was staring at the stars mesmerized by the beauty.
he has always had a strong love for stars, for he was raised in the house of Elrond among elves. as a child he often sneaked out to the garden at night, just to be surrounded by the tiny dots of light in the sky, which drew a silver light over the whole garden.
he was now looking at his favorite constellations, in the company of the person he felt the safest with. he sometimes closed his eye just to enjoy the elf's soft playing with his hair, and his fingers sometimes brushing his neck. for the first time in many weeks, he could finally ease and let an honest smile take over his face.
they were sitting there, losing any sense of time, just breathing in the cool, soft night air, and taking in the healing of the stars.
aragorn suddenly bent his head to his left.
'legolas, my friend' he said in elvish, looking back.
'yes, aragorn?' the elf replied with suprise in his voice, but remaining soft.
'please look into my eyes' legolas moved a bit to his left so he could be closer to the man, then did as his friend asked.
'why would you ask this of me, friend?'
aragorn didn't reply to his question, he only bent closer, and said this:
'i knew it. your eyes. they shine brighter than any star'
legolas looked at him with confusion, and a sea of emotions on his face, but aragorn put his hand on the elf's hand, before he could say anything.
'please, legolas' he said to him with a soft but serious face 'never let them fade'
legolas looked back now with a touched smile, and put his hand on the man's shoulder, then slid it over his arm, landing on aragorn's knee.
'i won't, aragorn, i promise i won't' he almost called him his love. a tear leaked out the corner of his eye, and he knew that many will follow.
but then, aragorn changed his smile to a serious expression again, and softly laid his right hand on the elf's cheek. then he moved it a little back, his fingers now touching the back of his neck and his silky, perfect blonde hair. he wiped down his friend's tear with his thumb, then slowly but surely, he moved his face closer. he looked at the elf's lips, than back in his glowing blue eyes. legolas closed his eyes and moved closer, his soft lips touching aragorn's. he put his arms arnound the neck of his love, and enjoyed his embrace with a soft smile on his lips pressed against the man's.
when they pulled away, his arms remained arnound aragorn, and he laid his head on his shoulder, never wanting to let go again.
aragorn's arms were closely tied arnound his waist, and the man was smiling.
'i love you, legolas' he said, looking at the stars, then slowly closing his eyes. legolas was breathing slowly again, with closed eyes, leaning on his lover.
'goodnight, my love' he said, and fell asleep in his embrace.
