Chen Jinyao’s late arrival left Yan Cheng very upset.
When the cell door opened, he slowly lifted up his head and stared directly at her. Without hesitation, the first thing he said was: “Why don’t you come back tomorrow?”
Due to his pent up frustrations, his tone of voice unconsciously turned sarcastic.
“…” knowing that she deliberately ignored him last time, Chen Jinyao leaned against the door and didn’t speak.
Still, her eyes remained fixed on him.
Those red eyes, dark circles, his unshaven stubble, and his messy hair; her gaze focused on Yan Cheng’s haggard face.
The room was heated from the air conditioning so at least this cold and graceful man didn’t end up freezing to death. The coat he wore also had a wool hoodie.
“It’s snowing outside and the road is in bad condition.” Chen Jinyao went over and handed him his down jacket. “I’ve finished up all the procedures with the police so you’re free to go now.”
Yan Cheng put on his jacket and partly bent down to zip it up. “Yes, my wife’s life is worth a thousand dollars. We should make sure you travel safely.” The zipper suddenly got stuck near the bottom, probably because he was in a hurry. Bad luck usually comes in a basketful; while he struggled to pull it up, the zipper ends up tangled with his shirt. Nothing he tried made it better. “Hey.”
“Let me.” Chen Jinyao smacked his hand out of the way.
Yan Cheng stood up straight and obediently waited while he pouted his lips.
Chen Jinyao bent down and concentrated. The scattered strands of her hair hung loosely on her tender white cheeks. A few seconds later, there was a squiggling sound and the zippler was pulled up directly to the top, knocking Yan Cheng’s chin. With her success, Chen Jinyao took a step back and said with satisfaction: “Alright.”
“Um.” Yan Cheng whispered as his Adam’s apple moved up and down.
…..
The trees and buildings on both sides of the road constantly flitted past. Chen Jinyao held the steering wheel with both hands and looked ahead while English music played in the car to ease the mood. Her husband’s silence made the atmosphere a little uncomfortable, so Chen Jinyao couldn’t help but ask,
“How long will Er Guan stay closed?”
Yan Cheng’s source of income was Er Guan.
Since the Yan family had other heirs to inherit their family business, they didn’t bother interfering with his profession at all.
He wanted to be an idle bar owner, so he did it.
Anyways, Er Guan’s business was profitable. It earned enough for him to squander his wealth.
Yan Cheng rested his chin on his hand and looked sideways at Chen Jinyao, his lips lifting slightly. “A month and a half.”
Chen Jinyao nodded. “What will you do in the meantime?”
“What?” He was confused for a moment, then he suddenly understood. Yan Cheng closed his eyes and lazily replied, “Of course, I’ll be a house husband.”
“…” Chen Jinyao was so surprised that she almost let go of the steering wheel.
Yan Cheng: “I’ll depend on you to support me.”
Chen Jinyao remained silent for a moment without answering.
Silence is the best refusal.
Yan Cheng also looked back at her, opened his eyes and asked, “You don’t like that?”
“Um.” She’s not willing. Wasn’t that obvious enough?
“Why not??” Yan Cheng said in an exaggeratingly ‘surprised’ manner.
Chen Jinyao glanced at him and smiled. “I can’t afford you.”
“…”
The atmosphere along their drive was quite good.
While waiting for the red light, Yan Cheng’s cellphone rang.
It was Zhou Xue. The caller’s display was conspicuous enough, or perhaps Yan Cheng intended to make it visible to her. Anyways, Chen Jinyao glanced to the side and saw it before looking away.
Suddenly, the car turned quiet. Chen Jinyao’s dark pupils seemed to light up. She smiled in amusement and lifted a brow as she urged him: “Pick it up.”
