After I asked Benjamin to put my suitcase in the maid quarter, I made my way to the kitchen to cook dinner.
"Pasta?" I asked him as I walked around the counter and settled behind it. I needed to make sure what he wanted to eat before cooking the food.
"Yes, please." He replied without even looking up at me. He focused on Fiorelli as she was awake now. He told me now that he strengthened the security and whoever came needed to be verified by him before letting them in, including his parents. He should be notified first.
He supported me in not wanting everyone to saw Fiorelli freely. That way, Fiorelli could roam the house without having to worry about getting caught.
I cooked dinner with the company of our daughter and James, even though they are not much of a great company.
"You should take some rest after dinner, James. You're going to the office tomorrow." I told him as I placed the plate in front of him. I attempted to take Fiorelli out of his arms, but he moved her away out of my reach.
"Let her sleep in our room." He said.
"Nonsense, James."
"Why? I would like her to sleep next to me." He whined.
"Fine then, but if she cries you need to bring her to me." I agreed. James was really stubborn and it never changed.
"No, I will call you and then you come to us. Because I don't want to let her outside of the house in the middle of the night. The night wind won't be good for her." He argued and I just had a feeling where it would lead. In the end, I would always stay at the house with him just like his plan and how he wanted it.
I knew he had a point and it irritated me. Seeing the faint smirked on his lips while he tried to hide it was ridiculous.
"I'll go set my room in the quarter. Can you at least put the dishes in the sink before bed?" I asked him before leaving. He nodded, so I didn't need to be convinced twice.
I left the main house and went to the maid quarter. I cleaned the house thoroughly to had Fiorelli comfortable and no dust was left.
It was quite a task but I got it done. After the house was clean, I came back to the main house to clean up the dishes that were left by James. This time around, I would pack the leftovers for myself and brought them to the house. So, I didn't to came back here if I felt hungry later in the night.
James and Fiorelli were nowhere to be seen, they must have been in the bedroom.
The main house was cleaned, so I was going to head to the maid quarter. "Jamee." I heard him called me as I was ready to go out.
I turned around and found him walking up to me. "What's wrong?"
"Are you okay?" He asked me in concern instead. Oh, he must be referring to the event earlier. It felt like I died seeing the people and police officers surrounding my house where my daughter was in there.
"I'm okay." I nodded and smiled in assurance.
"Come here." He immediately pulled me into a hug and he hugged me tightly but comforting. "I would have not been able to hold it if I was the first to found out. I would lose it at that moment. I couldn't imagine or even think about losing our baby."
"Since Nina can't come, should I look for another babysitter?" He asked as we pulled away.
"No, I can take care of her. She's here anyway."
"Then, don't you think it will be more convenient if you stay in the house? You can use the bedroom downstairs, so you don't have to run house to house if Fiorelli needs you." He suggested.
"I'll use the bedroom downstairs as a backup room." I nodded my head, taking his offer.
"Good night." Until he was satisfied, he finally let me go.
He grabbed my face and kissed me on the lips. He angled my face to deepen the kiss.
"You said good night, James." He growled under his breath and opened his eyes, then smile.
"I did, didn't I? But I can't let you go just yet. Stay for a little while, Fiorelli is asleep anyway." He tried to coax me again. "Let's have some warm tea and sit in the back."
"Do you have something to say?" I asked him. He always asked me to sat down with him while having tea on the terrace.
"I have... many things to say. But I knew, nothing mattered the most than your presence right now." His eyes looked gloomy.
"I'll make some tea, you can start the fireplace." I didn't want to keep asking questions. I could understand him and I still did. He was many things but I knew him through all of them.
He nodded then walked to the terrace while I prepared the tea for both of us.
Two mugs in my hands, I made my way to the back of the house. As I stepped out of the door, he already sat and leaned back on the couch. The fireplace was on just like how I requested him.
"You can tell me everything you want, but you know it won't change a thing, right?" I told him as I handed him the mug.
"I know. Sit down." He patted the space next to him.
He suddenly placed his head on my shoulder as soon as I sat down.
"Do you know how hopeless I was when you left? I did everything they asked me to bring you back. In the end, they couldn't. Vincenzio promised me yet again and he failed." He started ranting as I allowed him to. "I waited for you until the last minute before the announcement was made. Vincenzio still couldn't bring you back."
"Did I hurt you that bad to the point you couldn't send me a mail or anything to tell me about our daughter, Jamee?" He asked, finally wondering why I hid Fiorelli from him.
