MAGDIWANG

"Magdiwang! Run! Run as fast as you can and don't ever look back!"

"Biringan, I don't understand. What do you mean?"

"Magdiwang, there is no more time! Run and take Pia with you! I will hold them off!"

"Biringan! Wait! Biringan!"

"How dare you separate us! I will have her! I WILL HAVE HER!"

"YOU MONSTER! SHE'S JUST A CHILD! LEAVE HER ALONE!"

"Imbecile! Do you think you can stop me? Pathetic"

"No"

"Please, don't hurt him!"

"I beg you! Please! No!"

"AHHHHHHHH!"

"BIRINGAN!!!!!"

.

.

"Biringan!"

"Anong nanyari, Ate? Okay, ka lang?" (What happened, sister? Are you okay?" I heard Magdalo say as he came into my room. I jolted up, trying to process everything.

"Hey? You okay? Do you need something? It looks like you have a nightmare" Magdalo said and handed me a glass of water. I took it and drank the whole glass then handed the glass to Magdalo.

"Did Biringan show up on your dream again?" "Yeah, and it felt... so real"

"Biringan is telling me to run and take Pia with me, then suddenly a black silhouette showed up and then killed Biringan again... in front of me"

"I... I don't understand. Why that nightmare felt too real" I said.

"Don't overthink it, Ate. It's all just a nightmare, it's not real." Magdalo said and held my hand slowly massaging it to calm me down.

"Anyway, you said you're going to visit Kuya Biringan's grave before going to work, right? You should start moving now." Magdalo reminded me before standing up and taking the pitcher and the glass, getting it out of my room, and closing it.

I remained sat on my bed and looked at the picture on my nightstand.

It was the wedding photo of me and Biringan before the Japanese Occupation. It has been 80 years since his death but I can't help but to still be stuck on the past.

I was a hypocrite in telling to Kati to move on and be happy when I couldn't also move on and be happy as well.

I continue to grip onto the happy memories of Biringan like it was the last thread to keep me alive and moving.

If only I was brave and strong enough to fight...

Will... Biringan still be alive and with me?

Will we be able to build a happy family?

Will I not yearn for the past anymore and feel the guilt?

I don't know anymore...

Magdiwang got out of her car and took two bouquets. She stared at the cemetery ahead of her. Only a few people are visiting the graves since The Day of the Dead has long passed hence the reason why only a few people are visiting the cemetery.
