Chapter 6 - Alfie

"Alfie". Panic set in. Alfie was bleeding Mercury. That meant the Dread Doctors will be after him any minute. They will kill him for being a failure, I can not let that happen. We don't even know how to stop them. We didn't have enough time to figure this out. We need more time, this can't be happening. "We have to find Scott".

He was still staring at the Mercury on his hands. I wiped his face, clearing the silver off of it. He grabbed his hand and led him out of the library, pushing students out of our way. Sirens rang outside and students rushed towards them. If we were going to find Scott he'll be outside somewhere, he'll follow the sirens. I pushed through students, dragging along a distraught Alfie. Students cursed and complained at me but I ignored them. I pulled Alfie out of the school and towards the sirens, outside was an ambulance. I went towards it, a bad feeling overcoming me but it wasn't my priority. Alfie was. Alfie who stumbled behind me, his hand still intertwined with mine. Someone was being pulled on a stretcher into the ambulance. The stretcher came into view and I saw Corey on it. Mercury covering the bottom half of his face and soaking his top. He was a failure too, they will be after him. Mason ran after the stretcher and Scott watched on. Scott, I found him. I tugged Alfie one last time as I reached Scott. "Alfie is bleeding Mercury".

Scott's eyes were wild, as he looked back and forth from Alfie to Corey. Theo appeared next to him, emerging from the crowd. "Do something Scott".

"You're only bleeding a little for now", Scott said to Alfie. "Stay here. Check on Hayden, if you and Corey are both bleeding she must be to. Unless she's a success. I need to go to the hospital and make sure they don't kill Corey".

"Scott, you know they're coming for him. No matter how much he's bleeding. They'll be here".

"You're right, don't stay at the school is the highest convergence, it's easier for them to move to here. Go home. Call Liam. Check on Hayden. I will be there soon", he ordered. I had no other choice so I agreed. Alfie and I left, I drove us to my house. Alfie had nothing to say. I think he was trying to process the idea that he was about to die. I was scared. I had to protect Alfie from them by myself without knowing how. They're also terrifying and I have a tendency to freeze. When I got to my house. I locked all of the door, not that it would make a difference but it settle my anxiety a bit. I grabbed two glasses of water because why not quench your first when you're about to die? We went up to my bedroom and sat on my bed. I took small sips of water, as I tried to calm myself.

"How you feeling?" A sickness fell over me as I spoke.

"Considering I'm about to die. Good". Alfie gulped his water.

"You're not going to die", I put my water on my bedside table.

"Emily I'm bleeding Mercury. You've seen what happened to the others", he raised the glass to his lips but didn't take a sip. "I'm a failure".

"Scott will stop them. He will find a way before they come to find you. I trust him". I felt hopeful. Naive but hopeful. Our plans rely on hope.

"Just like you trusted him when he used me as bait behind your back?" He handed the glass to me. I took it placed it next to mine.

"Yes because he's Scott and doing the wrong things for the right reasons doesn't make you a bad person". Memories of Stiles and I conversation about Donovan filled my mind. I haven't spoken to Stiles in days and I hated to admit I missed him. "I need to ask you something".

"I guess you might as well ask before you know..." he drew off.

This was it. Time to find out who Theo truly is. "Are you friends with Theo? Before I found you he was saying some things about you being friends and that he knew what happened the night you ran out of my house".
