~~~Lexia~~~
I was running. That was the first thing I could remember when I woke up in the middle of the woods. Running from what? My wolf was pacing around in my mind, as if she knew something but wasn't sure how to tell me. 'What is it, girl?' I asked her.
'Mate,' was all she said before cutting our connection. That's when I remembered. I'd found my mate at the mall yesterday. Why did I run away from him? My wolf opened our connection again and said, 'He was buying make-up for another girl.' She cut the link again. Once again, my memory returned. Not only was my mate buying make-up for someone else, I recognized him as the Alpha's son.
Slamming my fist on the ground, I mentally screamed at the Moon Goddess. How could she make my mate the son of the man who ruined my life?!
Hold it, rewind, and let's start this again. I'm Lexia Redfern. I was born into the Beta family of the Hightide pack. Awesome, right? Being second-in-command to the third largest pack in the world should be amazing. That's just it. It's not. Being the Beta's daughter, I was supposed to be alongside the Alpha's son.
When I hit fifteen, the age where wolves shift for the first time, I didn't. The Alpha hated me because of it. He didn't even want his son to have a female Beta, let alone one that couldn't even shift. He didn't kick me out, though. Instead, he marked me as an Omega, the lowest rank possible in a pack, and forced me to leave my parents and live with the humans in the pack.
He told me and my parents that we were never to speak again. Honestly, I don't believe my parents even cared. They'd wanted me gone just as much as the Alpha. A wolf, especially one born in a high rank family, was always cast down if they were unable to shift.
Thinking about it now, I found it ironic that I would be the rightful Luna of the pack that hated me. I laughed for a second before it turned bitter. This pack won't want me. Not even my mate. He must not because he was buying make-up for another girl. My wolf howled painfully in my mind.
Of course, he was buying it for his girlfriend, Mikayla Simpson. Brandon had been dating her since before I became an Omega. For a while, I had been friends with both of them. Now, neither of them would even remember me. Brandon's dad had called in a witch and erased all memories of me from Brandon and Mikayla. After that, my parents had a son so Brandon would still have a Beta.
The same witch that had taken Brandon's and Mikayla's memories came back after my "brother," Jonathon, was born and aged him up to the point where he would just be old enough to be Beta once the Alpha passed down the title to Brandon. To say it's weird knowing you have a, now fourteen year old, brother when he's technically supposed to be two and half would be an understatement.
Jonathon doesn't even know I exist. He believes he's an only child in the Redfern family, and by the goddess is he wrong. Any memory of me was kept away from him just like Brandon. The rest of the pack still knows who I am though. Sad, isn't it? A whole pack of wolves is keeping a secret from their soon-to-be Alpha and Beta. Now, because of the damned Goddess, he's either: going to find out painfully, I tell him and hope he doesn't flip on his dad while his dad while most certainly kick me out of the pack, or I leave the pack and Brandon never has to find out. Not one of those scenarios are gonna play out well.
My head was against the soft dirt beneath me. Closing my eyes, I pushed everything from the past away and sighed. I let myself be content with where I'm at. Well, for as long as I could. 'Lex, our mate thinks we're human.' What?!
'Why does he think that?' I screamed through our link. Sure, I haven't shifted but I still have a wolf. Yes, I was in the human mall but his dad put me there and he was there, too!
