   "Balloons."

   "Circus," he replied blandly.

   "Monkeys," I shoot back.

   "Banana."

"Hah! You already said banana." I announce, beaming a proud smile even though no one was there to see it.

"How do you always win this game?" Rich asks through the crack in the wall. "It's not like you're smarter than me or anything."

I laugh at this. Hertz wasn't the brightest of the bunch, but he was the only person I had to talk to. I stared up at the white ceiling as I thought about how lucky I was to have someone to talk with. Blackguard had only been here for a year, but I was still fond of him as if I'd known him all my life.

People love going by their villain aliases around here. Rich and I both agreed it was alright for us to address each other with birth names, and trust me when I say I'm thankful I don't have to say, 'Hey, Blackguard? You awake?' all the time. Sometimes I wished the wall wasn't there so that I could see his pretty face whenever I wanted. Or maybe even give him a hug on occasion. Everyone here in Belle Reve is locked up either in a cell or a cage. I even saw this one guy in a large tin barrel with no windows. It looked horrible. All Metahumans in their own solitary confinement. Well, not Rich and I, of course.
No one knows about how we communicate. We aren't as dangerous as a killer crocodile, so our cameras don't have audio. They're only visual. They must think we're both even more crazy than we already are, taking to ourselves. When Griggs comes by to give us what he calls 'food', we act like there's no hole in the wall. Like we really are in solitary confinement.

I've tried flirting my way into Griggs heart multiple times for the purpose of manipulating him. Calling him the names 'handsome' and 'honeypie.' One time he offered to bring me a cookie if I was willing to flash him. As much as it would have helped the plan, I politely declined and told him to fuck off as sweetly as possible. I don't think he liked that because he hasn't said anything nice to me in weeks. I tried to win back his friendliness with compliments and lustful smirks, but no luck. I need to get him to trust me. It's the first step in getting out of this place. I'm sick of these white walls and the smell of puke.

"What do you plan on doing once you seduce him? There aren't many options." Rich had asked me. I had just told Griggs I had a dirty dream about him. He just tossed me my food, gave me a disgusted look, then a slight smirk, and walked away. I huffed.

"We'll get married," I joked. "I'll get out of here and after a couple months of sleeping with him, I'll persuade him to quit his job here. He will, and then I'll kill him. I'd somehow get you out of here and then we could live the rest of our lives not in a cell. Sound good?"

"One, he's already married and plus, he would never marry you. Two, we aren't really legal human beings anymore so I don't know about living out in the open. Three, please, in detail describe how you would kill him, and four, what kind of whack-ass plan is that."

I just wanted out. Not like there was anyone who would want to see me out there in the world.
