"We are fucking screwed!" I yelled over at Zussman.
"Well, at least we are together!" Zussman replied to me. I smiled softly, but the moment was soon ruined by the MGs continue to fire at the small team we had now had.
"Pierson!" I yelled over at him. Pierson in turn just ignored me and continue to fire his weapon. "William!" I said louder this time. "We need to fall back! We are losing too many men!"
"Stand your ground!" He responded back. I sighed and shook my head.
"Well, it was nice knowing you guys," I mumbled under my breath and looked at the guys. "Get out of here! I'll distract them!" I called out and pushed myself out of cover.
"Y/l/n!" Zussman called after me.
"Son of a bitch-"
Pushing myself up the hill I aimed my gun towards the outposts with the MGs and started firing like hell. Those MGs were eating us alive. Taking cover whenever I could. If I didn't die here it would be a miracle.
Looking where Zussman and Pierson were, I saw them arguing about gods knows about what. A flash of relief hit me when I saw more of our men running in.
I grabbed some flash grenades off my belt and threw them up at the top of the hill. I waited for them to go off before I pushed forward.
To my knowledge of my surroundings, I fired at the MGs. At least I believed I did. I looked like a lost dog in fog. Not knowing where to go. Not knowing where my home was. I was lost.
As the smoke started to clear I noticed that I was being surrounded. I sucked in a breath and turned in circles, aiming my gun at all of them.
"Ende der Zeile Schlampe," one of them mumbled.
"If anyone is a bitch it's you," I pulled the pin out from a grenade and threw it on the ground.
"Y/n!" I heard a rough voice yell. I sucked in a breath and watched as the Krauts started to turn and run away.
Knowing I had a few more seconds until the grenade blew, I kicked it far and ran in the opposite direction. Soon I collided with a body and felt their arms wrap around my frame.
Frantic, I looked up and found a pair of worried eyes. I let out a breath and stared at him. No words were exchanged, just a mutual knowing that it's okay.
Before I knew it I heard an eruption and looked over towards the hut that was just blown up. We did it. I cracked a small smile and leaned into Pierson's touch a bit.
"How many casualties?" Turner walked over to Pierson, obviously mad. I took that as a queue to pull away and go find the guys.
"We executed the mission," Pierson responded.
"How many!" Turner raised his voice.
"Our instructions were to take this hill!"
"You should've waited for us."
"There wasn't time,"
"What about our men?"
"We had orders-"
Before Pierson could even finish his statement Turner curled his hand into a fist and laid a fat one on Pierson's face. I gasped lightly and almost intervened but I knew Pierson deserved it.
"To hell with our Goddamn orders!"
"You think I wanted any of this," Pierson pointed out towards the many dead bodies that formed on the hill.
"We're cogs in a machine, Joseph. We start going our own way, the whole thing breaks down. When did you forget that?"
"These are men and woman! Our men and women! When did you forget?" A loud explosion broke apart the two.
