Evelyn

"Wait for her to wake before you kill her you idiot! She could be worth a lot of money!" Male. Hefty voice. Little hoarse, probably was yelling a lot.

"...or worth nothing." Unidentifiable. Quiet. Little sleekness. Has secrets.

My trained brain processed and sorted out what was happening before I myself could become fully conscious. The room smelled like a shack. Every footstep echoed as though it was a huge building. Couldn't be really more than fifty three feet wide, from the distance of the peoples' voices.

"David she is one of them. A scout. She isn't worth anything. She doesn't do the work the soldiers do. We need to get to somebody on the inside. Just let her-" a fist slammed and the room shook. Outside it sounded like water slushing up against us.

"Do you not have a brain captain? She can get us a person who does know the army's whereabouts! Get a brain asshole!" The hoarse man definitely had a temper. I mentally rolled my eyes.

Soft static buzzed in my ears. Sounded like Nolan's voice on drugs. I held back a chuckle then clicked my tongue to turn off the communicator and slowly, very slowly opened my eyes. The room was dim and humid and looked like made of wood. There was a desk where a lanky guy with dark brown hair sat. He had his hands together with his head down. Without turning my head, I saw a muscular guy picking up broken objects off the floor.

An old lamp that barely gave off light swung back and forth. Some dim light streamed in from a circular window.

Oh. I felt completely stupid. I was on a boat, or a ship. Oh. I felt even more narrow minded as I thought back to when- most likely- the big dude bashed me on the head. I realized I didn't hear him come up behind me. He must've hid behind my enormous pack. And I didn't do what I was trained to do! God I am so arrogant. I just bumped right into him and he knocked me out! From the pain on my head, he hit me with the butt of my rifle.

I shuffled a little to see what position and what kind of captivity I am in. Not a standard chair, more like a sofa without the cushion. My hands were tied with ship rope. Easy to cut but can withstand force like winds.

"So your awake Ms...?" The brown haired guy at the desk was looking at me. He had blue/grey eyes and a prominent jaw. His hair was curled and fell slightly in his eyes. Around twenty years of age. Yup. Definitely has secrets. The deceiving type. I spit blood and saliva in his direction.

The big guy slumped his way over and stood behind the desk. He glared.. Not at me, but the so-called captain sitting behind the desk.

I spit at their direction again, "You seem like a semi-smart man, yeah? Why don't you tell me who I am?" I tried to take a more comfortable position and smirked at him, "Yah know, to shake things up a bit."

The brute -guessing his name is David- looked angry and turned his glare from the captain to me. I shot him my prettiest, cheesiest smile. He grumbled like a savage dog.

Outside you could hear sea gulls and other sea-made birds. The nausea of being on water slightly deterred me but I had to ignore it.

Other than the dim setting and gruff minion, I would say we would be in a business-like atmosphere. The captain was wearing a business suit with a dark green tie and a matching hanker chief. His hair was messy, but still had glints of hair products, "You are correct. I do know very much about you, Ms. Evelyn Hart. 18, top class of Social Countering in Offensive Utilitary Tracking; hence, being named Head Scout. Shall I proceed and tell you my findings?"

His mouth twitched and he sat back down. Shoulders tense. Dilated eyes. Beads of sweat.. I calculated my next move. I am still learning how to think two steps in front of me, like in chess. If I don't, I'll either make it out of here with many pieces left on the board, one still standing, or lose. I preferably don't want to die or leave in bad shape.

"I.. think I know myself pretty well. But who are you and why do you want me?"

He clasped his hands, "I was waiting for you to ask!" He smirked, "I am offering you a position. Not one of my standardized positions like here David has," He gestured to David, who growled.

"So what do you want me to do?" I shuffled and tried to think of how to get out of here. I can easily get out of these ropes, could use David's strength against him.. But after that? I am no match for David. He'll crush me. But... If I get to the Captain... I smirked. Commencing Plan A.
