Behind Blue Waves

Backpacks rustle as we all stand
My lunch grasped in my hand
Steps towards the doors
Never knowing what I'm in for
Soft as a ghost I walk
Listening to the others laugh and talk
Wanting to join in
I feel lost in my own skin
Almost seems like I'm floating
But without even knowing
She asks if I'm ok
I smile and look the other way

Avoiding my own thoughts all day
But participating in the usual way
Up and down I go
Like waves as they flow

Lockers shut fast
Walking slow, I am the last
Feeling the sun on my back once again
I can remember times way back when
Home at last I rest
But here I feel the real test
Sensing their moods
I try to help them too
Leaving my heart dry
Waiting for you to reply
Wanting a response
But getting nothing, I add more locks
Higher and higher I build this wall
Praying for someone to stop me before it falls
Hiding in plain sight
I wish you wouldn't fight
Asleep once more
My dreams hide the pain behind closed doors
Tomorrow I'll do it all again
Because I know you'll need me then
