For the country, this is most probably the worst thing to want to have to remember.
I don't know much about it having not entirely existed then until later in the 2000's.
On a Sunday evening at a gathering in my grandfather's house admist a roar of laughter and countless of stories
The topic arises.Ah Yes the bombing.
My uncle now a much older man in his forties tells us the story of how he encountered the bombing.
Being just a young man in his 20s, he was at school, studying for his upcoming exams when the first bomb occurred.
"It was defeaning."
He says." I had just gone downstairs to get chairs for the exam when it occurred,
I remember wondering what that was.
My mind had not yet understood it was a bomb." when he saw people out running. He understood what had occurred and was out at the door with some of his friends heading further away from the bombing to see if he could get a bus.
On his way, he remembered his books,
And decided to head back for them.
(Being a university student myself, I find this completely inspiring or if I might say insane seeing as I would not have gone back for them.
Probably would not have remembered.)On his way back with some of his classmates.
He encountered the second bomb, which he says was way worse than the first.Being slightly close, he was thrown back by it but recovered fast enough to head back to a safer place.
" Most of my classmates were not as lucky."
He says. Some were in the building and he could see some Being thrashed down 3 floors down and others jumping with the sense of urgency to escape the danger and crowded building with just but a narrow door for escape.
He pauses at this point.
Takes a sip of his liquor with a pint of orange juice. We the kids slightly shocked at the events being told.
"A friend of mine."
He recalls."Was on the bus,"
The bus he would have boarded had he not gone back to get his books."He was so fortunate to escape unscathed, from the bus that left every one but him dead."
He says.
The room is quiet at that point.
Everyone there recalling the events that occurred then." I remember frantically calling you.
"
My grandmother says." I was so worried, I did not know what to do."
She says." I got home safe. Thankfully."
He says.My uncle however was one of the lucky ones,
The one's who lived to tell the story.
Many lives were lost and they will always be remembered.May their souls rest in peace.
