After sitting out in the sun for a few minutes, Luke and Kaity headed back into the locker room to get dressed. She tugged on her shirt and shorts over her damp bikini, not minding that it wasn’t completely dry yet. Luke, on the other hand, changed out of his swim trunks into a pair of mesh basketball shorts and into another muscle tank.
They kept their backs towards each other, respecting each other enough to not sneak any peeks.
“Are you decent?” Luke asked after a few minutes, once he was done changing.
“Yeah,” Kaity answered, turning slowly to make sure that he was changed. She noticed that he had a backpack on his shoulders, probably holding all his belongings. “Ready to go?” She asked, knowing well enough that she really wasn’t allowed in this particular locker room and Luke was leaving as well.
He nodded and gestured for her to go first. “Oh, shoot!” Luke exclaimed, stopping them both just outside of the gates of the pool. “Wait here a sec, okay?” He asked, his eyes meeting hers. Kaity hesitated by nodded anyway.
Luke flashed her a smile before running back inside. Kaity waited patiently by the entrance for a few minutes. The sun was starting a draw a thick sweat to her forehead. Kaity wiped it away with the back of her hand as she heard footsteps.
She turned back to the entrance to find Luke walking back out. A grin was permanently etched onto his face. He returned to her side before holding out a card on a small keychain to her. She also noticed that his lip ring was back in its place near the corner of his mouth.
“What is this?” Kaity said, taking the plastic card from him. It was white with the pool’s logo in red on the front.
Luke smiled at her. “It’s a pool pass,” he answered. “Admission is free, but if you ever want to eat while you’re here, this gets you anything free. They’re really only for employees, but now that I know you’re going to be coming here a lot, I thought you should have one.”
Kaity smiled back and nodded her thanks. She tucked the pool pass into her back pocket. She walked towards her car, Luke by her side. Kaity glanced around the parking lot, noticing that his truck was on the other side.
“Listen,” Luke said, catching her shoulder slightly and turning her to face him. “I was wondering if you wanted to get something to eat with me,” he said. “We should get to know each other a little better if we’re going to be hanging out so much.” He shrugged as he finished speaking, his eyes hopeful.
Kaity thought for a moment, but she couldn’t resist his eyes. Besides, he did have a point. She barely knew anything about Luke, and she wanted to know more.
“Okay,” she agreed, returning his warm smile.

Kaity ended up in the passenger seat of Luke’s truck for the second time in her life, and she couldn’t say that she was disappointed. Luke told her that he was taking her to one of his favorite diners on the beach.
“I eat here all the time,” he said, pulling into an empty spot in the parking lot. “Sometimes Ash and I come here early in the morning before we surf, but I’ll make an exception for you,” he grinned.
