Chapter 2
till death do us part ♡
"Will you walk with me, Ana?"
Adriana gives me an apologetic smile as we stand behind the doors that conceal me from my future husband, "Mi dispiace, carissima, your father wants to walk with you."
I'm sorry, dearest.
Panic grips me, I haven't seen my father in nine years and I am not prepared to be in such close proximity to him, my grip tightens on her hand, "no, Ana, please, I-"
"Sh-sh-sh," she calms me, tugging me into her solid embrace, "it's just for a short while, carissima, Violet will be right behind you," I feel her cold hands stroke my back to let me know she is there, "and I will be waiting for you at the end," she kisses my forehead. "We are almost there, Lyra."
Nodding, I release a shaky breathe before letting go of Ana's hands and watching her walk away from me with a soft smile.
"We got this, sexy," Violet whispers to me, "and speaking of sexy, now that Addie's gone, can we take a moment to talk about how fucking gorgeous her son is? I mean, my God Lyra," she begins to fan herself with her bouquet, "talk about sex-on-legs, you're so damn lucky."
Chuckling softly, I give her a dry look, "And just how do you know what he looks like? Even I haven't seen him outside of photos yet."
"Photos which he looks mighty fine in," she winks at me. "No, I saw him when I was trying and failing to get to your room, at least I assumed it was him, I could only judge off the photos Caterina sent me."
"Cat? Why is she sending you photos of Cavallaro?"
Violet gasps, "Did she not tell you that she's working on the Donatelli Estate? She's been promoted from club stripper to private," Violet rolls her eyes. "Not that it matters, she's still her same old slutty self."
"Rude," a new accented voice declares, "I happen to think I've become more slutty since my job change."
My smile grows wider as I spin to find Caterina standing behind me in a dress identical to Violet's.
"No fair," Vi pouts, "you copied my dress."
Cat and I ignore her as we come together for a hug, "Sorry I'm late," she kisses my cheeks, "I only just got off work," she pulls away, "sei bellissima, Lyra."
You look beautiful, Lyra.
Cat tucks a curl behind my ear and I grin with a wink, "Ovviamente."
Obviously.
"Okay, I don't speak linguini language but I assume you just told her she looks pretty."
"Yes, you uncultured lollipop. Nice hair by the way, what went wrong?" Cat sasses.
Cat and Vi had been like this for as long as I could remember. Cat worked in a Donatelli strip club in Sorrento so when we moved into the city, we kind of adopted her as our own. We all quickly discovered that their personalities clash but over the years we have come to love and depend on each other, no matter how much we grate on one another's nerves.
Violet flips her the bird before proceeding to pick at her nails with disinterest. But her back soon straightens and her eyes harden as they land on something behind me.
A cold hand rests against the small of my back and a wave of discomfort and unease crawl through me at the touch, "You have grown into a gorgeous woman, daughter."
His voice is the same as I remembered it, deep and unfeeling, his British accent thick like my own.
Taking a deep breathe, I turn slowly to face him, "Yes, no thanks to you."
