Chapter 9
cheeky day out ♡
A loud knock on the door wakes me and I resist the urge to scream a foul curse word at being woken up again.
"Principessa, if you want me to take you into the city you need to get your ass up now."
I groan and shove a pillow over my head, "Vaffanculo, Dante."
Fuck off.
He chuckles through the door and raps on it twice, "Don't forget you still have to wear black Lyra, be down in 15."
I kick my legs in frustration, releasing a groan as they become entwined in the blanket. Peeking my head out from the pillow, I notice the alarm clock flashing green: 09:45.
Fucks sake.
Stumbling out of bed to get ready, I decide on a black sundress that is tight on my bust, before flaring at the waist paired with a black floppy sunhat, black strappy sandals and the ruby necklace which I retrieved from Cava's office yesterday.
Slowly making my way downstairs, I grin when I spot Dante stood at the bottom of the stairs, tapping away on his phone, he looks up at the clicking of my sandals and wolf whistles.
Laughing, I spin around at his childish response, coming to stop at the bottom of the staircase. I place a soft hand on his arm, "Thank you for doing this for me Dante."
His eyes sparkle with mischief and he shrugs carelessly, tucking his hands into his pockets, and I notice he looks slightly more casual in black slacks and a white button up, no jacket or tie.
"I know what it is like to go from the freedom of doing as you like to being restricted based solely on the choices of another," he smiles fondly down at me, "I would never let my cognata go through the same thing."
Sister-in-law.
I smile back before following him out to a car but silently contemplate what he could be talking about, the transition from a young boy to made man? Or something deeper and more personal?
Like a natural reaction, an eyebrow lifts when I notice his two seater car, "We aren't being driven?"
Dante laughs, loud and deeply, bending over and slapping his knee, making me jut my hip out and tap my foot impatiently the longer he continues to laugh at my expense.
"Dante," I snap.
He abruptly stops laughing, straightening completely and the complete mood switch makes a shiver travel down my spine as I am reminded that no matter how nice Dante may be to me, he is still a very dangerous man.
"No one and I mean no one can know that I did this for you."
I swallow and nod before slipping into the car as quickly as possible, the excitement of the trip out suddenly melting into cold anxiety, settling like a bad omen in the pit of my stomach.

By the time we arrive in the centre of Sorrento my anxiety has once again been swallowed by my excitement and I barely refrain from jumping in my black Louboutins as Dante pulls up outside a quaint little restaurant. The exterior is yellow and white with vibrant green vines crawling up the edges like decorative banners. A huge window teases at the honey interior which showcases prestigious awards and family photos as though they all hold the same value.
My heart squeezes at the sight and I silently hope that this is where we will be eating.
"This is Della Famiglia," Dante announces, opening his arms up towards the restaurant, "What do you think?"
