DELILAH WOKE up to the sun shining into the room and the sound of the shower going off. The smell of cigarette smoke lingered through the room, filling it with smoke. Remus was already up and reading across from Sirius who was smoking. The two boys legs intertwined as they sat across from each other.

The girl sat up and rubbed the sleep from her eyes, getting up and crossing the room. She plucked the pack of cigarettes from Sirius's hands and the lighter, lighting her own.

"Oh yes, Dede, take one if you please." Sirius smirked at the girl, sarcasm dripping from his lips.

Out of all Remus's best friends, she talked to Sirius the most being paired up with him so much in divination. And they had to do a potions project together.

Delilah took a large inhale of the smoke and letting the air out feeling her lungs burn.

"Why you both do that is beyond me." Remus shook his head at the two.

"Why the two of you haven't told me your fucking is beyond me, but hey." Delilah shrugged her shoulder as she looked out the window not looking at the two boys who shifted and pulled their legs from the other.

"De,"

"I already know Rem, Siri, it's complicated."

The two boys looked down feeling a wave of guilt not only for all the lying but also the one sitting across from them, because to be with the other was illegal, frowned upon and seen as gross. People who were gay still seen as gross.

"I hate that you can't be happy."

"I hate that you can't too." Remus looked up at his sister a knowing look on his features.

"Why can't she,"

Sirius was cut off when James entered the room. Water still dripped from his messy brown hair and the towel hung loosely around his waist. Delilah found herself bitting her lip and unable to look away from the boy, staring at the muscles the boy had.

She had liked him since her third year when he had accidentally bumped into her and helped her pick everything up. And the way he looked at her, made her swoon and her heart beat faster. But he was in love with Lily and she was just Delilah.

"Forgot my clothes." James mumbled as he grabbed his uniform and walked back into the bathroom.

Sirius nodded knowingly as the girl sighed and came back to reality. "Oh."

"Yeah, I have a crush on someone who doesn't even look my way, nor will he ever because he can only see Lily, my best friend."

"Love sucks."

Delilah walked over to the nearest bed and fell on it, lighting another cigarette. "Indeed."

"Why does love suck?" James asked walking into the room.

"Because finding the one is like finding something that's lost for good. It's either never going to be found or when you finally do, it's not possible to be with them because somethings always in the way." Delilah answered looking up at the boy who had his shirt unbuttoned and his tie hung around his neck.

"That's depressing." James smirked down at the girl. He knew he was attractive to all the girls in school. Except Lily, she seemed to hate everything about him.

"That's what happens when your depressed. Hope drifts in the wind."

Delilah put out the flame on her wrist like she had done many times, and it didn't hurt anymore. But the four boys in the room flinched as the girl did so.

"Lilah?" Peter spoke up for the first time.

"Mm." The girl questioned as she sat up to look at the boy.

"Are you happy?"

Remus looked to his sister trying to read her features but her smile never wavered. She just stood up and walked to the door with her same bubbly energy but before she left she answered his question, "one doesn't need happiness, just enough strength to get by until all the pain is over and happiness becomes possible."
