Alright, bois, sit tight. :D
It's going be a rough ride from here. It's going to be a "longass ride" in this chapter because we about to go "up and down like a rollercoaster." :D
(If you got the references, please do comment and lemme know. And yes, I love you and we shall now be besties.)
Before we begin drawing parallels, I want to take a moment to appreciate their vocals.
Jungkook, I'm still mad that Still With You isn't on Spotify. Who told you it's okay to put out such a bop (bap? Bomb? :D I'm sorry, I'll show myself out now—) and then NOT allow us to listen to it without having to go on YouTube? ToT
Taehyung... I'm waiting. I need an R&B solo album from you, preferably featuring Baekhyun. :D
Ksjdbsnbd I'd DIE from happiness if that happens, fr!! They're both my biases in their respective groups and— CAN Y'ALL IMAGINE THE RICHNESS THEIR VOICES WILL CREATE TOGETHER?! I'M NOT READY BUT I STILL WANT IT.
Clears throats. Sorry for screaming, I got a lil' overexcited. Ahem, so anyway—
Jimin in a red suit performing Filter will forever be a blessing to humanity. That song compliments his vocal tone and techniques perfectly, accentuating the beauty of his slightly higher end of a voice. It's stunning.
And Jin in Epiphany has and will always cure me of any sadness. Also, that triple high note he does at the end of Crystal Snow... Omg? HYBE give the man a solo album already.
Alright, now that we've seen the PROS of their techniques, let's see the CONS.
...
Alright, I'll just say it.
As strong as their vocal game IS, it isn't the best.
The best vocals I've seen so far in the k-pop industry, come from SM Entertainment. And it shouldn't really be a surprise, considering SM is practically known for being very strict about picking out vocalists during the auditions.
Allow me to explain in what I deem minimalistic yet technical terms.
I'll talk about three tones here; the chest voice, the head voice and the mix belt. (Yes, I'm aware I haven't talked about their lower register, but we'll come back to that later.)
The chest voice... Well, it's pretty self explanatory. In easier words, it's also the tone you use when you talk normally. The head voice is one we're all aware of; it's a common term, so I won't explain it. (If you aren't, please feel free to stop reading here, Google it/search it up on YouTube and come back.) The mix voice, again, is quite predictable now that I've explained chest voice.
Can you guess what it is?
If you said a mix voice tethers in between both a chest and a head voice, you're absolute right. It's a little harder to pinpoint a mix voice because the start of everyone's head voice is hard to pinpoint, especially to an untrained ear like mine. However, the most evident and easily identifiable mix voice belt in my opinion is Baekhyun's note towards the end of Jopping. Y'all can't tell me that note wasn't the most powerful thing you've heard in a while. Like, stop lying, sis, we know he's a vocal legend.
