Third Person's POV

The sun couldn't set fast enough as Yeonjun counted down the minutes until seven o'clock. When the royal clock-tower chimed seven times, he could have fainted with relief when Jungkook finally declared himself ready.

His hyung was putting extra efforts today.

They were going to the ball, the royal ball. No-one knew the reason to the sudden ball but not everyone gave a thought to it except Taehyung, he was confused because he knew his father doesn't do anything without any selfish reason.

As Yeonjun followed Jungkook out of his suite, they could hear the sounds of distinct chatters and laughter floating through the halls. Jungkook straightened his posture and Yeonjun gave him a smile as the doors were opened by the guards. Entering, it exposed the glittering chaos.

Ahead of them, the Magic Apprentice and the Royal Enforcer had emerged, greeting them briefly, they walked together. The staircase curved around the left wall, it's plush red carpeting ending in stark contrast to the ballroom below. Huge columns lined the walls, holding up the vaulted ceiling lit by dozens of sparkling chandeliers. In the corner, the quartet were playing soft, melodious background music, barely audible over the chatter inside.

As Jungkook descended the stairs, in grace holding his breath. He breathe in relief once he spotted Taehyung. Their eyes met.

"Hyung" Yeonjun called, snapping him from his reverie of staring deeply into Taehyung's dark orbs.

"Yeah?"

"Smile" Yeonjun reminded and Jungkook nod, displaying a fake radiant smile.

Jimin and Jin left them to greet some people meanwhile Jungkook was observing Taehyung with a soft smile until he saw a womanly figure approaching close. He saw how Taehyung and the lady bowed to each other, in greeting.

The lady said something, he couldn't hear but his jaw clenched when Taehyung offered his hand for her to take and he walked to the dance floor. The lady had a huge smile on her face while Taehyung had a polite one.

Jungkook observed the lady, the expertly tied corset strings. The dress was terrible shade of pale pink that clashed with her auburn hair. It was a demure, almost matronly look. Taehyung then bowed to the lady once again before turning around so he was now facing Jungkook yet they had a long distance between them.

Taehyung smiled softly but Jungkook's gaze roved around the room, admiring the lavish spread of food and drink and the slow, deliberate movements with which the aristocrats moved around the room. No one hurried and almost everyone seemed to be engaged in the most interesting conversations, atleast superficially.

As Jungkook admired the heavy tapestries lining the walls, following the progression of Sankori, his eyes landed on the empty throne up the dais.

"Where is the king?" He looked at Yeonjun.

"Yet to arrive" He replied with a shrug and Jungkook nod, looking around once again and his eyes again met with Taehyung's.

The prince of Sankori strode towards him and Jungkook couldn't help but notice the seductive gazes at his love. No wonder, Taehyung looked devastatingly handsome in his crimson royal uniform jacket, bright blue sash cutting across his shoulders. Each person dropping into a curtsey as he now stood in front of Jungkook and Yeonjun.

He greeted Yeonjun with a polite nod and a genuine smile then looked back at Jungkook,

"You okay?" He asked, worried.

"Yes, don't worry" Jungkook assured and Yeonjun watched the interaction with a smile.

He was aware of what was going on here, Jungkook had told him two days ago, the day he confessed and they kissed.

After a short conversation of two-three more minutes Taehyung wandered off in the crowd again as he had some duties to attend to. Jungkook was left with Yeonjun again but he preferred it that away.

Throughout the ball, they shared some soft gazes even though they had some distance between them, being on two different corners of the giant royal ballroom.

The king's arrival was announced and everyone stopped whatever they were engulfed in and straightened their postures, greeting him. Jungkook cringed when his eyes fell on a lion, a leash around his neck as the king had a grip on it.

That was enough to tell that the king was sick, mentally.

Nevertheless, the night carried on with Taehyung and Jungkook sharing some soft gazes and smiles. None of them aware of the gaze that was keeping an eye out for the lovebirds.
