???'s POV

I had been staying in my room for an hour, ever since my last interaction with my parents. The grief that was aching my heart, the tears pouring down my cheeks like a waterfall, it was burning me alive. I was a broken mess. I was too anguished to move, to drag myself across my room and study for the following day's Literature test. I gave myself some motivation. I could make them proud again, I could redeem myself once again. I could be the child they wanted.

I overcame the sorrow in me and got out of the bed, slowly crawling towards my table. The need to go back to bed was calling me, but I didn't care. I glimpsed at my clock: 7:26 pm. They didn't call me out for dinner like usual. They didn't want to see my face. My eyes welled up again, tears threatening to make its return, but I held it back. That wasn't the time for tears. It was the time to revive myself. I grabbed a water bottle next to my clock and quenched my thirst. I had to ace that test.

My growling stomach paused my progress. I was starving and I couldn't maintain myself any longer, but I hesitated to get out of the fortress that was my room. It was 2 am, if my parents caught me up this late, what kind of trouble would I be in? The only thing I could do was to sleep through hunger. I was nearly done anyway, so it was okay if I finished it at school. I closed my textbooks and tossed them back where they belonged to. I was proud of myself and for the first time in a while, I managed to smile. I jumped on my bed and put my glasses in my drawer. I felt at ease the moment my eyes closed, then I drifted off to a deep sleep.

I woke up early like every other day. The tiredness was still present, but I knew exactly what I had to do that day. I quickly rolled my blanket into a ball and tossed it on top of my pillow. I bolted to the bathroom, combed my tangled hair and brushed my teeth. I quickly packed my school supplies up, putting on my jacket as well. Winter was coming, so it would be breezing outside, a jacket was a good option. I quickly rushed to the fridge in search of breakfast. Apples were the best choice, or the only choice, so I picked up one to eat on my way to school.

I noticed the lights were on in my classroom when I arrived. It was odd for me, due to the fact I was nearly always the earliest to arrive. I peeked inside to see Dawson at his seat, reading a textbook. I twisted the handle and swung the door open. I was led into the warm and cozy room, the coldness inside of me fading away in the hands of the warmth. I only had my shirt behind my jacket with my grey trousers, so it certainly wasn't suitable for this type of weather. Dawson was wearing his favorite green sweatshirt with a black beanie, which I really wanted to pull off his head.

"Are you gonna sit down or not?" He suddenly asked, knocking me back from my random thoughts. I rolled my eyes, suppressing a smile on Dawson's face. I pulled my chair off my desk and sat down. I wasted no time, taking my textbook out immediately and double-checking for any possible mistakes, even minor. Dawson took out a sheet of paper, giving me deja vu. He mumbled something as he compared it to his textbook.
