The bed feels extra comfy today. I had to carry heavy boxes, up and down repeatedly with no breaks. I breathe heavily, my chest also going up and down wildly. Sweat is dripping off of me, landing on the bed sheets, enough to soak them wet, but I don't really care, sooner or later it'll dry.
I reach for my phone that I left on the drawer 3 hours ago, and check the time: 8:39 p.m, it's still early, no, way too early. But I'm too exhausted to keep myself awake, my eyelids barely keeping themselves open. I close my eyes and thoughts start filling my head, the pandemic has finally ended. I have been waiting for this moment since forever, seeing my idiotic friends' faces, playing football with them again and doing all kinds of fun shit, just like old times. Focusing on them really calms me down, allowing me to fall asleep. I let a smile of relief escape, as my whole body relaxes and everything fades to black.
I wake up, letting a yawn. I rub my eyes before reaching my hand out to the drawer next to me. I realize there isn't one and I was just waving my hand back and forth like an idiot. My eyes wide open, I notice the surroundings have changed. I'm no longer in my cozy bedroom with blue LED lights, instead, I'm in a moving car. My bag is right next to me, which is kind of odd. Did I get up and prepare, only to fall asleep in the car once again? I question the driver for their identity and where we're headed.
"Who are you? Where are we going?" The person continues driving for a while, before they finally give me the response I needed.
''Don't you remember what your dad's car looks like? You've been in here like a thousand times already kiddo. You didn't wake up to your alarm, so I assumed you were too tired after your work, which by the way, was a lot of help so I'll thank you for that. I thought I could help you out with extra minutes of sleep, so I prepared everything you needed for the first day." My dad's voice makes me feel relaxed, and I lean back on my seat.
"Thanks dad,"
"No problem, also the next time you forget how the inside of my car looks, I'm gonna give you a smack," He replies and I can already hear his smile. I also let out one. I recognize the name of the street we're currently on. I figure that maybe a few extra minutes of sleep won't hurt, so I lay down on the backseat, adjusting my position a few times before it finally feels comfortable. It doesn't feel as good as the bed, but I'm taking whatever I got right now. Those damn boxes hurt my back so bad.
I closed my eyes for approximately 6 minutes before I hear my dad's voice again.
"Hey, our stop is here buddy," He says as he gently shakes my shoulders.
I take a few seconds to regain my vision, before sitting up and stretching. I reassure my dad that I'm wide awake before putting my shoes on and head out of the car. I bid goodbye to my dad as I walk the rest of the path to my school. Not far away are teachers checking for student cards. I've always hated this because it's time consuming and there's really no use in it. I still get past with ease and take the nearest staircase. It feels way emptier than it usually is around this time. I'd see students walking with each other, following with chatters. I ignore this strange anxious feeling of mine and walk up the stairs.
