God im so terrible at this whole 'sticking to deadlines' thing. After 2 years of waiting! Here you go!

CHAPETER FIVE

The bell at the end of second period signaled the start of our first break when they reopened the doors. Max and I made our way down the trees and back into the building to the cafeteria area. Max seemed to be a bit skittish and I tried to reassure him that they got what they were after and were going to leave him alone, but it didn't ease the nervousness in his system. No matter how many times he tried to laugh it off, I still saw him check around him and down each hall as we passed them.

As we reached the cafeteria he pushed the door open and allowed me through first. You know how in movies or books, as soon as a new kid passes through the doors, everyone stops and stares? Well, I can assure this didn't happen. Everyone continued with munching on their food and talking in their groups. Thank God though; I wouldn't want to embarrass myself in front of everyone...again.

We grabbed the food we wanted and found a small table just outside to eat. Today was sunny enough that you could seat outside and not feel like you were slowly melting like the wicked witch of the west. We weren't the only ones outside. People were sitting in groups on the grass or at other small tables like ours also soaking up the sun. I also noticed that everyone here at this school looked either muscled or decently fit and no one wore glasses. This sparked my interest because at my last few schools, about half the population wore glasses. I also noticed that while Max was friendly to everyone, there wasn't anyone else at our table, which I thought was a little odd seeing as most the groups I've seen around today so far always consisted of anywhere between three to five. Maybe he likes being alone. If that was the case, then why was he talking to me and treating me like a friend still or even in the first place.

Just as I was about to question Max about it, his phone, more like brick, went off with a message tone. I stared at him with his mouth full still chewing away as he read the message before putting it away and stuffing his food into his mouth more.

"Wow slow down there before you choke on it all." I joked. He returned it with what I believe was a cheeky grin, but it looked distorted around his bulging cheeks.

He tried chewing faster but just ended up looking like a bit of a spastic chipmunk.

After another minute of chewing, he managed to swallow it all down before letting out an 'ahh' sound and making movements to stand up. I started to copy his actions of getting up before he held a hand out to me. 'Nah Arti, you stay here. Just going to go see my dad. He's the one that messaged me. Apparently he is not happy with me about some incident of me breaking into some guy's locker. I don't even know how he figured out it was me, but I guess I'll know soon enough." He smiled at me as if he wasn't afraid of the consequences that faced him. I was about to object with the fact that lunch would probably be over soon and I still don't know where to go but he left before I managed to get a word out so I just slumped in my seat with my elbow on the table and my chin in my hand.

"Great. Now I'm going to be stuck." I mumbled to myself. I stared around at the other people sitting outside taking in their appearances till I noticed one certain group. It was the three guys from before. The one with the black hair and one of the dark haired boys were tossing a ball back and forth between them and chatting away while the third one sat against the base of the tree staring in my direction. I looked behind me and around me to see if he was staring at something else but I found nothing. That's just a little bit creepy. You don't just stare at someone, it's weird. And it was as if he could read my thoughts because he openly smirked at me. This is getting weirder by the second. Please stop man.
