Teller: The substance continued to grow over the last couple of days since the initial spurt but has since stopped. It seems it may have been reacting to being on the ship. We're unsure if it's normal for the substance to grow at an incredible rate compared to its size or if it was a reaction to a new environment, presuming its normal environment is space.
It's truly amazing—it seems to act similarly to moss, but I've been unable to determine if it closely resembles that of anything on Earth. Small mounds began to show themselves around an hour ago, but I've yet to determine their function. Doctor Fan may have some insight into this.
I moved the substance into the containment lab as protocol requires, but I've found it difficult to keep the rest of the crew away. They're interested, which is expected. A discussion is necessary.
I'm extremely limited on what I can do—we don't have all of the necessary tools in the lab. As you can see by this scan, there does seem to be some sort of system contained within, similar to what veins look like in a human body. I'm unsure what this huge mass is here—perhaps some sort of control center? This substance is an oddity because while it looks like moss, moss does not have something like this; this looks more animal-like. We should know more after a series of tests in the next couple of days.
Any insights would be helpful.
