Derek's POV

As a result of The Third World War, technology was practically extinct and extremely rare and it was expensive if you wanted to generate electricity.

When I was six, we were on the verge of the yet another War. Three years later, in preparation for combat, they evacuated everyone between the ages of four - twenty to a military base, soon converted into an elite school, training children to become weapons for the government.

By the age of twelve I knew 57 ways to kill a man, with precision and accuracy. I knew of nothing but war in those young years, family and normality practically forgotten. I was fourteen when I was ruled fit for combat.

The next three years of losing comrades and killing the enemy flew by but the war continued.

I run through a body littered field, conflict erupting around me. I almost didn't see him, he's not paying attention to his surroundings and he accidentally walks onto a landmine, the boy can't be a day over 13. I push the shocked boy to the ground and jump onto the mine. I hear my comrades shouts in the background as the mine explodes and pain engulfs my entire body.

I lay next to the thankfully uninjured boy, he's crying and tears fill my eyes as I finally realise I'm going to die. The boy look sad and his comrade is comforting him and trying to lure him away from the sight of my broken body. He relents and grabs my hand, "Stilinski, we have to go. It's not safe here." I smile at the Stilinski boy, I let go of his hand and the comrade scoops up the young boy and carries him away from the impending threat of the war zone.

I can see the boy, squirming and screaming, trying to make his way back to me, that is the last thing before nothingness. . .
