"MOM, IS HE OKAY?" you ask, feeling a panic attack emerge in your chest. Your mom's frown deepened as her eyes darted to your brother's hospital room. She bit the inside of her cheek to prevent tears from spilling out of her [e/c] eyes.

She shook her head.

You felt your entire world shatter, sobs escaped from your lips and your body started to ache. Your knees buckled beneath you and you collapsed. Your heart was pounding in your ears, feeling that it would jump out of your throat. Your lungs squeezed in your chest, making it harder and harder to breathe.

Tears streamed down your face like a dangerous waterfall. Your small sobs soon turned into gasps for air as you repeatedly wiped your cheeks and eyes, hoping that your tears would soon dry up. And they didn't, your tears continuously falling.

You knew this day would come and you counted them, which only added more stress and weight on your shoulders. The fear of losing your little brother to some stupid disease that had no cure was inching closer to you― mocking you in the face. When your brother was born, you promised to protect him with everything you had, but the mere thought of not being able to save him hurt. He was leaving and you couldn't do anything about it, he was dying right in front of your eyes, and you couldn't stop it.

You've recently bottled up so many feelings and you thought you could last, you really did. But, losing your brother was a big push for you.

You grabbed onto your shirt, hoping it'd make breathing easier.

It didn't.

"Hey, [y/n], calm down." your mother said in a calming voice. She knelt beside you and wrapped you in a warm and comforting hug. She caressed your back as she let out softs shushing sounds in a soothing manner. She repeated these gentle movements until your breathing soon became stable, though you still let out soft sobs every now and then.

"He's not going to make it to see tomorrow, [y/n]. His disease is eating him alive at this point, and he's going in and out of consciousness. And we don't have enough money for life support if he falls into a coma. He's leaving us today..." She informed as she pats your head.

Again, tears fell from your eyes but this time it was less intense. "Do you want to talk to him before he leaves?" Your mom asks as she bent down to your eye level. You meekly nodded your head, wiping your damp cheeks with your palm.

Your mother walked you to your brother's hospital room. He lied there, unmoving. He was unconscious. Tubes were sticking out of different parts of his body and the loud, monotonous sound of the heart monitor was deafening. His deep breathing was heart aching, and you felt another anxiety attack well up within you.
