YOU STEPPED OUT OF the elevator, all the other participants' eyes looking over to you and the guys. You cleared your throat, feeling uncomfortable. Your attention shifted downwards when a small man, resembling a jelly bean, walked up to Leorio. You shivered, remembering the cursed game Bean Boozled.
"Please take a number," he said, giving Leorio a badge with the number 403 on it. One by one, the jelly bean man gave you guys your badges. Yours had number 406 on it, one number after Gons.
I wonder who got number 69, hehe
"Be sure to wear this on your chest at all times." the small man said after giving you your badge. "Be careful not to lose it."
You nodded. The small man smiled and walked off.
"Haven't seen you guys around before" someone said.
You looked up and saw a round man with medium-toned skin and brown hair. His badge number was 16.
"Hey!" he said as he gave you a close-eyed smile.
"You can tell we're new?" Gon asked.
"More or less," he replied. You eyed him as he jumped down from the ledge he sat on. Walking up to you and your friends. "After all, this is my thirty-fifth attempt."
"Damn, you must suck." you accidentally said.
An irritated expression took over the man's face, "Bold words coming from a newbie."
You smiled, "You'd be surprised, bro."
"Don't mind [her/him]. [she/he] has a sharp mouth, and apparently doesn't know how to keep it shut." Leorio sighed.
An irk mark appeared on your forehead. "Don't assume people's gender, old man!"
"W-what?"
"I'm non-binary and I go by they/them. How rude," you said, crossing your arms.
"How rude of you, Leorio," Kurpika said, shaking his head.
"Ah― I didn't know!" Leorio panicked, flailing his arms. "Sorry kid..." he said, an apologetic frown evident on his face.
You laughed at him, "I'm just joking, dude. I never stated my pronouns anyway,"
"A-anyway," the round man muttered. "If you have any questions, feel free to ask me."
"Thank you." Gon smiled.
"My name is Tonpa," the round man, Tonpa, said, extending a hand.
