Chapter 6
Arlo's POV
It felt good to be home. I was in control when I was away from Thea. Eight months didn't feel as long. I felt my body tense thinking about training with her in the morning. It was going to be difficult. I brainstormed ways to get Sam to step in and take over.
"Marion is a nutcase." Jake spoke as he came inside. I stood from the couch and turned off the tv.
"It didn't go well?" I asked. He sighed.
"It's as if he's losing his mind. I don't even recognize the man anymore." He brushed past me and sat down, pulling out his phone. I waited for him to continue as he typed away.
"He has built a conspiracy about the humans. About them knowing about us, and slowly picking us off. It was alarming the amount of false detail he had constructed." He quickly stood before putting his phone back into his pocket.
"Rachel is coming over tonight." He quickly changed the subject. I side eyed him for a moment.
"I just had to endure days of that nonsense. I deserve one night with my lovely lady." He defended.
"What are we planning on doing about Marion?" I prodded. Jake shrugged.
"He doesn't have any other packs on his side. So plan is to wait out the crazy, and ignore his sick mind games." He perked up when there was a soft knock on the door.
"Jesus she's here already?" I whispered. He paused for a moment before inhaling a deep breath. He smiled my way while shaking his head.
"I think that knock is for you." He winked before heading upstairs. I narrowed my eyes before taking a moment to seek the scent that he picked up on. Fuck. Sweet sin soaked my lungs. Thea.
I made my way to the door before front loading my wolf on his behavior. As soon as I opened the barrier between us, I bit down on my tongue hard. She was fiddling with a bag in her hands, her dark long hair was down tucked into the black winter coat she wore. A gust of chilled wind blew past her, sending her scent barreling right into me. She half smiled, raising her pink cheeks.
"You forgot your toiletries. Mom wanted me to bring them over tonight incase you needed them." She raised the bag offering my things to me. Her brown eyes seemed lighter with the porch light shimmering against them. Another gust of wind blew her hair into her face.
"Come in." I found myself offering my warm home to her as if it were a good idea to be alone with her. I found myself doing all the wrong things around her.
"Thanks." She stepped through the door and immediately tensed up as if my home were somehow colder than the outside. My scent affected her as well. And my home was full of it.
I closed the door and turned to her, grabbing the small bag from her hands, my fingers brushed hers sending a shiver up my neck.
"You have a nice house." She complimented. She walked further and stopped at my living room. The hum of the gas fireplace filled the silent room. I watched her closely as she glanced around the place. She's been here before, but that was before she knew she was mine. The place had my smell now, and sparked her curiosity.
Her head snapped behind me as Jake made his way down the stairs in a hurry. He had a sly smile plastered on his face when he caught sight of her.
"Lovely to see you Miss Althea." He greeted. She nodded and smiled.
"You too." Her voice was soft, she was nervous.
"I am headed to Rachel's, you should stay and have a drink. Arlo makes a good mule." He spoke before grabbing his coat. I narrowed my eyes at him. He had intentionally changed his plans. He was dead set on me breaking my rules with Thea. She chuckled.
