First-person (the point of view of the reader if you don't know):

"(Whatever they said that announced the global pandemic in March of 2020," said the communications on the television.

Covid.

Also known as Covid-19 in common parts.

That's what ruined it all.

I lost my job, I can't put my kids back in school (the elementary school that they went to shut down and isn't reopening) and my ex-husband now lives with me full time.

We live in Arizona for some reason and Jason lives in Texas, he tries to come as much as he can to visit his babies.

Oscar (there are so many different spellings for this poor child's name in the span of just one chapter) and Kylie.

He makes an effort to come at least twice a week, which is great, considering the fact he lives in a different state.

So now he lives here full time and it's been hell.

Well for me.

This man cheated on me, and he now lives with me against my will.

He doesn't have anyone close by so he has to stay here.

And he has his children here, so that's another reason to stay.

"Mommy, mommy," Oscar said tugging on my leg.

"Yes, baby?" I asked.

"Daddy said he is going to build us a slide in the backyard!" Oscar said and he started jumping around for joy.

They couldn't go to the park because of covid and Jason never did any projects like this when we were married so I have little hopes he will do it now.

I was in my pajamas because I don't have a job and nothing else to do so I have the right to not get out of bed the majority of the day.

Just a shirt too tight for wearing outside the house and some shorts.

There Jason was, in the backyard.

"Cheap ass, what happened to the slide you were building?" I asked.

This bitch really just bought a playset online and order it.

It was from Walmart too.

I shut the slider door in case things escalate which they always seem to do.

"I build them their slide didn't I?" Jason said, he smiled, he was testing me for sure.

"Move it off to the side so it isn't near the cement," I said as I get the hose to start watering the little plants we had in our backyard.

I didn't want my kids jumping off the slide and hitting their heads on the pavement.

"Are you happy now?" Jason asked with an annoyed look on his face like it wasn't his kids he was protecting.
