TAEHYUNG

I heard everything.

Jennie and Jin were just pretending to be sweet to everyone only to get their parents' trust. They didn't like each other, and they just want to make their parents proud even if it cost them their happiness.

I don't know but it somehow made my mood lighter, knowing that Jennie didn't like him at all.

"What happened to the dinner at Jennie's house?" my father asked the moment I entered the kitchen to look for my mother.

"What dinner? Your son told me I wasn't invited," I said then turned my back.

My relationship with Dad wasn't good ever since my mother became mute. He changed a lot, and I guess that he only married my mother because of her popularity and money. Yes, he wasn't my real Dad. He's my Dad's older brother that's why it is so hard for me to accept their relationship at first, but when I saw my mom happy with him I happened to like him sooner.

I tossed my bag on the chair in my study area and threw myself on the bed. The moment I closed my eyes I saw Jennie's face‒ her gummy smiles and cat eyes. Her beauty is breath-taking that even though I'm into girls, she still got me.

I opened my eyes when I heard my room door creaked. My face brightened up when I saw my source of strength. She motioned me to with me and I nodded. Before she could go out of my room, I pulled her closer and hugged her tight.

"I think I'm in love again mom," I whispered though I know she couldn't hear.

She gently caressed my back the reason why I looked at her with knitted brows. She was smiling from ear to ear and told me that she knew it based on my facial expression and action.

My eyes widened with excitement.

Did she just hear me right now?

"Can you hear me, mom?" I asked with teary eyes, but she just shrugged and left the room.

A genuine smile escaped from my lips. This is the first I smiled like this for many years.

"Mom, wait up!"

"I told you that wasn't the right key." Jennie giggled as she held Jin's hand and pointed the right chord on the keyboard.

Jin chuckled too. The way they act is so cool. You can't tell that they are just pretending to be sweet to show off. They look so happy right now and seem like there are just two of them in the practice room.

"Hey, stop that lovey-dovey time. We have to practice," RM said then walked towards me. "Check this song if we can make a story behind this." He gave me a folder containing the lyrics of their chosen song.

Your Guardian Angel by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

"Isn't this a bit boring?" I asked.

I found the melody of this song boring at first. If we want to win the battle of the bands we must choose a song that the listeners can enjoy.

"I'm asking about the story, V. If you want to change the song, go ahead. Just be ready to sing it at the event." I was taken aback by what he said.

My head turned to Jennie and Jin, who's already looking at me with their innocent stare. I looked again at the lyrics and the both of them.

"We can use Jin and Jennie moments here," I suggested and gave back the folder to RM.

"Jennie, can you prepare the video presentation? We'll have to practice starting tomorrow." RM turned to his sister and Jennie enthusiastically nodded.

"I can help you if you want," Jin said, but she shook her head and cupped his cheeks.

"I'm fine, just focus on practicing."

What a sight for sore eyes.

Jennie walked towards the table and put out a mini notebook in her bag and started writing some things. I guess she's making a timeline for the presentation.

We all positioned ourselves in front of the instruments we're playing. RM on drums, Jin's on the keyboard, and me standing holding my old guitar. I forgot to buy new, maybe tomorrow. I'll ask JK to help me to pick the best one.

"Jin, can I play the keyboard instead?" Our eyes widened when we heard JK's hoarse voice. He also has a runny nose that we didn't notice earlier.

"Wait, what happened?" RM asked.

JK put his mask on and Jin let him sit in front of the keyboard. JK shook his head and motioned us not to go near him.

"You can take a rest, JK. Go see Mr. Lee."

My blood boiled when I heard the doctor's name. I remember what happened days ago to Jennie because of his laziness.

JK nodded and leave the practice room. We all looked at each other, trying to pick on who to sing for the battle of the bands. It's either RM or Jin now since if JK's voice didn't come back until next week, we don't have a choice but to put him on the keyboard.

"Jin will do it," RM said with finality and motioned Jin to grab the microphone.

"Why me?" Jin asked. He loves playing the keyboard and he won't let that go.

"You're courting my sister, right? Just think that this is your courtship song." My eyes turned to Jennie when I heard RM, and to my surprise, she was blushing. Her face was so red and seems like she's asking the ground to open up.

I thought everything was just an act? Why do they have to go this far?
