It was a cold, grey, and stormy night just like every other night. The seas roared through the thick fog as waves crashed into each other. In the middle of the ocean was a single island with a massive mountain in the middle of it. The beach was made up of small rocks the surrounded the mountain. On the west part of the island, a baby dragon crawled itself up to the shore. It was a Night Fury, but it wasn't an ordinary one. It was large for one at its age with it being much taller and longer than a normal baby Night Fury. Even it's wings were half normally larger than most. It has normal all black skin with dark purple eyes and white veins surrounding it's upper chest to its front legs. The stranger part was that it had the wings and dorsal spines on its back and bottom face of a Skrill. It coughed out the salty seawater from the ocean and laid down on the cold, rocky surface of the island. It took slow breaths and began to drift off to unconsciousness. As it closed its eyes, he saw a black figure of a dragon before it shut its eyes.
"Who's this, momma?"
"I found him offside the shore line dear. Poor thing looked like he swam for a million miles. I'm amazed he's still breathing."
"Wow. Look at how big he is. He looks even bigger than any of the gronckles around here."
"Your right Shadow. He does seem a bit larger for a Night Fury for his age. Oh look, he's waking up. Make sure he feels welcome and do not scare him."
"Ok mamma."
As the young Night Fury's eyes began to open slowly to see the source of the voices. One of them was an adult female Night Fury with light green eyes. She looked down at him with a smile on her face. The other voice belonged to a very young Night Fury with the same kind of eyes. He also had a smile, but was too close and too personal as he was right in front of his face, literally.
"Hi there!" The young Night Fury said.
"Ahhh!" He jumped back from the more hype Night Fury in front of him. He backed himself into the stone walls and balled himself up as he shook with fear. The female Night Fury scowled as she looked down at the young Night Fury.
"Shadow! What did I just say?!" She said. The young Night Fury looked at her with an awkward smile.
"Sorry mamma. I got excited." He said with a little chuckle. The female rolled her eyes before smiling again and put her wings above the shaking Night Fury.
"I apologize for my son. He just gets excited around newer dragons, especially with ones at his age." She said with a soothing voice. The young Night Fury slowly looked up at her. She had her smiling face, the kind with the look of gentleness and comfort of any mother. He stopped shaking and relaxed his body as he felt more comfortable around her. Her son walked up to him. He leaned back a little. His height towered that of Shadow's, by just a few inches.
"Sorry if I scared you." He said, "We don't usually see other Night Furies around here."
The other Night Fury infant looked down at Shadow with less fear, but with curiosity. He relaxed a bit more.
"Its okay. I'm a bit shy around newer dragons." He said, "Also, I'm not just a Night Fury, I'm also part Skrill too."
Both Shadow and his mother were shocked. The closer they looked at him, the more they could see it. The wings, the dorsal spines, even his size made it all make sense. Shadow put on a huge smile on his face and jumped up and down.
"That's so cool!" He said, he looked all around the other Night Fury up and down, "Does that mean you can control lightning too?! Can you summon lightning storms?!"
"I think that's enough Shadow." His mother said, "I'm sure you have a lot of questions, but I think he'll answer those another day." Shadow looked up at his mother. He looked down with the pouty face and stepped aside and let his mother look at the other young Night Fury/Skrill hybrid.
"What happened to you, young Fury Skrill? Where are your parents?" She asked him. As she said that, his face turned into sadness and looked down at the floor.
"My- my- my parents abandoned me. Said I was a mistake and threw me to the ocean to drown. That's how I got here." He said with a crack in his voice. Shadow and his mother were taken back again. Sure, not every dragon parent is perfect, but to leave their own young left for dead? That is disgraceful. Shadow's mother growled silently under her breath. Her anger rose as she has never heard of such cruelty from a dragon parent, let alone a Night Fury and a Skrill. She took a deep breath to collect herself. If this young Night Fury, Skrill's parents weren't going to take care of him, she will.
"Don't worry young one. We will take care of you." She said in her gentle voice. Shadow stood by his.
"Yeah. We'll be your new family. Buy first, you need a name." Shadow said. He looked closely at the white veins that surrounded his chest. "Huh. Those veins. It looks like venom is flowing threw them. Hey...venom. Yeah. Venom. That could be your name."
The young hybrid was about to protest, but stopped himself. He looked at the veins. He had to admit, they did seem to fit with Shadow's description of them. He thought they looked pretty intimidating."Yeah. That's my name. Call me...Venom." He said with a smile.
Prologue is complete. I know it's not perfect, but trust me, it'll get better as the story goes on. Let me know if there's any grammar or spelling errors I need to fix.
