"What the fuck..." She whispered, her voice barely audible.

Had she seen that right?

Her mind had gone completely blank as she tried to process what had just happened. Staring at the mirror, she hesitantly reached out to touch the rippling glass only to find her fingers sinking into it, disappearing completely. This had her quickly retract her hand with a yelp. Holding her hand close to her chest in a protective manner before analysing her fingers for any abnormalities.

Turning her gaze back to the mirror, she once again reached out, this time a lot more confident than before.

"What is this..." She thought out loud, before sinking both her hands into the mirror, completely hypnotized by the rippling effect it had around them, almost as if she was touching water.

"Meoww..." came Max's sudden cry from within. Making Y/ns heart begin to pound in fright. Her mind immediately began to draw up worst case scenarios.

Taking back her hands, she took another step toward the mirror, this time placing them on either side of the frame in a vice like grip as if she would be sucked in at any moment.

"Meoww..."

"Max!" she whispered harshly, trying to call the cat back to her. But he never came.

She wasn't sure what to do. Max had just leapt through without a second thought, and still seemed to be in one piece. This only gave her one solution.

Taking a deep breath with her eyes squeezed shut, she slowly leaned toward the mirror, allowing the glass to engulf her head completely. After she was sure she had gone through, she cracked an eye open to gaze at her surroundings but once again found herself startled.

Half expecting to find herself in some kind of magical place, she instead found herself in what can only be described as an old, abandoned shack.

The flooring and walls that were made from what looked like timber was smothered in dust. Wooden furniture including a bed and wardrobe adorned cobwebs and the once blue rug was now a faded grey whilst the small table that sat on it looked worn down like it would collapse at any given moment... It seemed it had been a while since anyone lived here.

Y/ns attention turned to the broken window, its glass was shattered with various bits scattered amongst the floor. The curtains that hung from it were in tatters, the remnants flowing in the cool breeze that seeped in to the room making Y/n shiver.

Taking one last glance around the room, she braced herself as she cautiously stepped in. Allowing herself to pass through. Taking a deep breath, she began to search for Max, calling out to him in a hushed whisper. It wasn't until she got to the bed to peer under it that he shot out and made a jump for the window ledge, before settling down on the frame to begin cleaning his ears.

"Max!" She said as she walked towards him, picking him up and holding him close to her chest. He only meowed in response.

"Let's get the hell out of here" She exclaimed, turning to the mirror. When all of a sudden, a blood curdling scream echoed from outside. A man in tattered overalls came running down a dirt path toward the shack, crying out in fear.

"Help! Someone please help!" He screamed, stumbling face first in the dirt just outside the window. Y/n stared at him in shock, her heart pounding in her chest. She made a move to hide behind the table, her breathing laboured from the fear coursing through her body.

Slowly peaking over, she had a perfect view of the man through the window as he struggled to stand, but he seemed to have injured his leg as he immediately fell to the floor.

"What the hell is happening" Y/n whispered as she surveyed the man from her hiding space. Until a massive thump outside had her fall to the floor as the ground shook. Y/n gripped Max tightly as he tried to escape from her grasp. Trying to find her bearings, she managed to crawl back to the table for cover, before looking back toward the broken window. A few more thumps sounded as the ground shook in rhythm. The man turned himself round to stare up at sky, she could just about make out his frantic murmuring.

"Please don't hurt me, please don't do this, please..." He shook with every word he spoke. His hand coming up to shield his face as he quietly begged. All of sudden, a giant shadow loomed over the man, he stared up in pure fear, screaming for mercy, tears streaming down his face. Y/n couldn't take her eyes away, her surroundings becoming nothing but a blur. That was until the man suddenly looked towards the shack, her breath hitched in her throat as their eyes met.

His horrified expression stuck, his eyes now pleading.

"Please..." He pleaded, begging for Y/n to help somehow. But what could she do?

Silence filled the air as they stared for a brief moment, his expression now showing defeat as he weakly smiled at her. His voice barely a whisper.

"Run"

Suddenly a giant hand shot down to the ground, snatching the man up and pulling him up above the shack. Y/n jumped at the sudden action, her eyes widening in fear as she listened to the tormented screams of the man. Tears streaming down her face, she quickly covered her mouth to silence her whimpers, her eyes clenched shut, with Max clutched in the other and bolted towards the mirror. That was until she heard a loud snap and his screams suddenly ceased.

All that could be heard was the almost silent crunching before she dove back through the mirror.
