Chapter 2

I was getting off the bus in the morning when suddenly a blonde strutted up to me. A very bratty blonde. That I hate. Hannah Sampson. She is the schools…It Girl. She thinks she’s so hot and can get any guy she wants to. She and Austin are friends and once Hannah was going completely phsyco on Facebook to me calling me very inappropriate names and I told Austin and HE AGREED WITH HER! Anyways, she was walking up to me with her puppy Jenny. She smirked.

“Who’s the slut now? You’re going out with your best friends crush.” I wanted to slap her.

“Rachel doesn’t like Josh anymore.”

“Well, that’s not what she’s telling everyone.” With that, she walked away. I hurried to where my friends and I hung out. Avery saw me and came bouncing over.

“I heard you said yes!” She was grinning. It didn’t look like anything had happened. I spotted Rachel and walked towards her. She was standing with two of our friends: Christy and Isabella. When they saw me, they glared at me and Rachel turned her back to me.

“What’s wrong?” I asked her.

“What’s wrong?” Christy said for her, “What’s wrong?! You stole her boyfriend!” My mouth dropped open. Seriously?

“That’s not what happened! I asked her if I could date him and she said I could!” I told them, trying to make them understand. They rolled their eyes.

“Yeah right.” Then they walked away. What the heck did Rachel say about me?

During class, I passed a note to Avery.

Have you talked to Isabella?

Yeah. I told her what happened last night and that Rachel said you could date him and she told me that Rachel was telling everyone that you’re a low boyfriend stealing jerk and that she never said you date him. She wrote. I got really angry when I read that.

SERIOUSLY??!! She told me I could!

I know that and you know that and some other people know that but others don’t and we have to tell them. So that’s what we did. Whenever someone sent me a glare or asked me about it, I told them what Rachel told me last night. After that, mostly everyone understood but some people that were close to Rachel, or just hated me for a particular reason, didn’t.

After school and soccer practice, I got onto my bus and went home. I went on Facebook and saw that I had a message. It was from Austin.

Ummm…I was gonna ask you something today but I guess I can’t now. Was all it said.

Lily: What is it? I wrote back.

Austin: I was going to ask if you wanted to get back together with me…

Lily: Why would I say yes after you broke my heart?

Austin: So I went through all of this for nothing?

Lily: Excuse me? Do you know what YOU put ME through?

Austin: I’m sorry. I know you like Josh more though so I’ll leave you alone.

Lily: I never said I liked Josh more.

Austin: It’s kind of obvious.

I stopped talking to him for a while because I needed to talk to Josh.

Lily: Josh…I think I need time to think about my feelings about you and Austin.

Josh: Are you breaking up with me? L

Lily: NO! Nevermind. Just call Avery. I talked to her and she knows what I’m trying to say.

About 15 minutes later, Avery called me.

“I told him that Austin told you that he liked you again and that you needed time to think about everything. I think he got what I was trying to say.”

“That’s good.” I said to her in relief. “Hey do you want to come over? I want to show you mine and Austin’s conversation.” She quickly agreed and had her parents drive her here.

“So? Show me the money!” She giggled and zipped past me in the hallway and up into my room. When I got into my room, Avery was already on my Facebook and was staring at my computer screen with a shocked expression.

“What is it?” I questioned, slowly making my way over to the computer.

“I think you better see this,” she replied quietly, her eyes never leaving the screen. What I saw, terrified me, and made me want to laugh at the same time. Hannah tagged me and Avery in a post.

Lily McMeller and Avery Mestriano. I AM BEATING YOU UP ON MONDAY. BE PREPARED.

That gave us two days to prepare. I looked back at Avery. She still looked shocked but slowly, her wide eyes narrowed and her mouth turned into a scowl.

“Who does she think she is? Just because she’s a year older than us doesn’t mean she can treat us like dirt! I am going to go talk to that ugly piece of-“ She went on, and on. She logged into her Facebook and turned on her chat. There was Hannah’s name. Avery pressed it and began rapidly typing away. Soon, she and Hannah were internet yelling (in caps) at each other and I finally took the keyboard away from her. I signed back into mine and saw that Jenny and one of Hannah’s friends, Maren, commented on the post, saying how they were so going to kill us.

You do know, I commented, that if you beat us up, ALL of the teachers are going to see and you are gonna get a MAJOR suspension.

They took a while to respond but finally Hannah had an answer.

Well, then we’ll just have a chat with you about why you don’t call people bad words.

I didn’t even know what she was talking about so I just told her that was fine and I couldn’t wait to have a great chat with her and logged off so I wouldn’t have to deal with all of this drama.

“Lily,” Avery said softly, “Do you know who you like more? Josh or Austin?” I didn’t know how to respond so I just shrugged. “Because I know Josh. Yes, he can be a jerk and a player but if he’s your friend, he can actually be nice. Just don’t trust him too much if you date him. But, I also know Austin and he is just a jerk. I honestly don’t ever remember him being nice. And when he asked out Brooke in grade 8, he said he wanted to date her because she was pretty and she gave him stuff. Just don’t get hurt again. I can tell he’s just playing with you.” I nodded and took all she said in. He really said that to Brooke? What a loser. But, my feelings for him didn’t change. I didn’t think they ever would.
