A Western Affair

Flights.

Night time flights were my thing.

The pure joy of driving to the airport at 10.

I'd my favorite radio playing in the background for one last time for years to come. The realization that I wouldn't be able to catch the station again in the country I'm moving to gave me all sorts of emotions.

I've always been a lover of mundane things but when life just didn't seem to make any change in its present state, I decided it was about time I planned something for the future ahead. Something interesting as others would put it. An adventure. A journey.

And here I am in front of the Airport being dropped by my best friend, a bride in two weeks time.

I don't know if i can still be considered one as my 'runaway plan' as she calls it , was my priority over her wedding. But being my best friend and soul sister for almost 21 years, Natasha knew she just had to let me go. It was now or never.

Natasha helped me load the luggage into the trolley and gave me a quick hug. "Text me when you reach. And every other hour after you take a good sleep." She said in an almost warning tone.

"I will, i will. Get married and have babies soon." I replied pulling her cheek. It didn't take much for her to fall into tears and embrace me with the longest hug.

God am I gonna miss her.

Natasha left soon after i received the boarding flight to Austin, Texas.

This was my first ever solo trip. I have been looking forward to this day despite all the nervousness that surrounded me invisibly, and all the anxiety that I'd to take help for from Zenath, my counsellor for the past 3 years.

Right now, as i sit down in the lounge staring through the glass window at the airplanes lined besides each other, i feel numb.

My head felt light and I wasn't sure if it was hunger or an unknown fear that played around in the pit of my stomach.

An hour later, the departure doors opened and i walked into the airplane dragging my luggage in with me.

And then we flew away.
