I smiled happily as I stirred the Storceag (Fish Soup). It smelled heavenly, and was something I hadn't gotten to eat in a long time! I had first had it when I started my mission in Eastern Europe, but after I was captured by Miranda, I didn't get to have it again. Now that I had the opportunity to cook for myself, I quickly learned the recipe.
It had been five years since Heis and I escaped the Village. Five years since we had escaped Miranda. And in that time, so many things had happened.
Once we were discharged from the hospital, Chris took it upon himself to find a place for Heis and I to settle down. I had expressed to him my concerns about the United States Government wanting to turn Rose into a weapon if they ever found out about her, and he agreed with my concerns. So, we chose to settle in a remote fishing town in Italy. It was far enough from Miranda that we could start over, and far enough from prying eyes who might want to take Rose from us. After that, with my Father's blessing, we got married properly. It was a small ceremony, but nonetheless beautiful. Baby Rose was the flower girl, my Dad had gently pulled her down the aisle in a small wagon that was trailing flowers. It was still one of my favorite pictures! Rose was now growing up happy and healthy. Once her powers start presenting themselves, Heis and I will work with her on how to control them. I smiled on all these memories as I heard the front door open and close.
"Ooh, that smells good!" I heard behind me. Heis reached around to try and get a taste. I smacked his hand with my spoon.
"Ah! Nope, it's not ready yet!" I said.
"Aw, come on Darlin', it smells amazing!" He said. I laughed.
"Well thank you, but you still have to wait like everyone else! Where's Rose?" I asked.
"She's outside on the swing." He said. We had a huge oak tree in our front yard, so Heis had attached a swing to it. It was Rose's favorite thing to do outside.
"Good! it's a beautiful day outside, it's good for her to be out in the sunshine." I said. As I was stirring the soup, I felt him rest a hand on my stomach.
"So, how's Karl Jr.?" He asked. I snorted.
"For the last time, we are not calling him Karl Jr.! We already decided on his name, anyway." I said. He laughed.
"I know, I know, I just like getting a rise out of you!" He said. The door opened and shut again, and Rose ran in, red faced and smiling.
"Hello love! Did you have fun outside?" I asked. She nodded, as Heis picked her up.
"Mum, is supper ready?" She asked.
"Almost Darling! We're just waiting for Papa and Uncle Chris!" I said. She looked up at Heis then.
"Dad, will you make my toys move again??" She asked, and I giggled a little. Heis had put metal in parts of Roses toys just so he could make them move for her.
"After dinner kid, okay?" He asked. She nodded.
"Okay! Mum? When's little brother gonna be here?" She asked. I smiled.
"In four more months, Darling." I said. I couldn't help the smile that grew on my face. This was what I'd always wanted. A life, a family, a proper family for Heis and I. Of course Rose wasn't biologically ours, but it hardly mater to either of us. Our time with Miranda had taught us that blood didn't make family. Of course, we would tell her about her biological Mother and Father one day, but we wanted to wait until she was old enough to fully understand. Until then, we were content as we were. I looked up when I heard the door open.
"Papa!" Rose jumped out of Heis's arms and ran to my Dad. He scooped her up into his arms.
"Hey Little Miss!" He said, walking in. Uncle Chris walked in next.
"Hey kid! Look at you, you're getting so big!" He said. I smiled and walked over.
"Hey Dad, hey Uncle Chris. It's good to see you guys!" I said. Dad hugged me.
"It's good to see you too, Sweetheart." He said. They greeted Heis while I went and got the soup off the stove and took it to the table.
"Dinner's ready!" I called. Dad set Rose in her seat, then sat down beside her. Chris sat down on her other side, then Heis and I sat down together.
"This tastes amazing, Winnie." Chris said. I smiled.
"Thanks Uncle Chris!" I said. With that, Heis and I smiled at each other. "Okay, so there is a specific reason that we asked you guys to come here tonight. And that's because we picked out a name for the baby, and we wanted you guys to be the first to know." I smiled more. "Our sons name is going to be...Leon Christopher Heisenberg." I said. Both my Dad and Uncle Chris stopped eating.
"Aw, Hun..." Dad stopped short, but I could see the tears in his eyes.
"Well, I'm honored, but I'm surprised you didn't want to name him after Ethan." Uncle Chris said.
"Oh, we thought of that. But we already decided that we'll name our next one after Winters." Heis said. I smiled.
"We really want a big family...a real family. Nothing like the one Miranda tried to turn us into." I said.
"We're really honored you want to name him after us, Win." Dad said. I smiled.
"It only seemed right. Dad, you're my Father, and Uncle Chris, you got us both out of that hell five years ago. it just seemed to fit." I said. With that said, we spent the rest of the evening talking, playing with Rose, and enjoying each other's company. Meanwhile, Heis and I couldn't wait for the arrival of our son!
