Mom: No sweetheart. Our family can bond with the energy of the plants this way, and that's why we can create these talismans. Everyone else from Selin can bond with an aspect of nature, whether that's plants, water or the other elements.
Me: Can I make my flower red?
Mom: Sure. Do you remember what I told you about these charms?
Me: Yes. You said that as long as we are close to each other, they will shine and while we're healthy they'll be bloomed. If we are sick or dead they will wither.
Mom: Exactly. And that happens because they are linked to our vital energy.
Me: Can we make one for dad too? We could make a blue one for him and a yellow one for you; like your eyes.
Mom: Yes, of course.

At night, when we sat together to stargaze, I gave it to my dad and he was really proud. He hugged me and we gazed at the night sky together.
Mom and dad fell asleep. Then some stars started moving.
Me: Mom! Dad! Wake up! Look, falling stars!!!
They woke up. They got up and as I was in my father's arms, he went in the house.
Mom started putting some things in a bag. They both looked worried and I couldn't understand why.
Dad: Honey, I don't want you to be scared, but those aren't stars.
Me: What are they?
Dad: Those are ships from different planets. And the things you saw falling were bombs. We have to leave as fast as possible.
I didn't get to say another word, my dad took me back in his arms and we entered our little ship and got away.
Two days passed and we landed on a place that looked very grey. In our planet you could see colors everywhere; green grass, blue skies, colorful flowers and houses. Here everything is grey and brown. And no one is happy. Soon enough, my dad started working in a mine. I don't really know what a mine is, but he says that that's how we can live. Mom said that we should act just like everybody else, but I don't see anyone who's like me. Oh, also, I found out that this planet's name is Drill.
When I was 11 years old
The situation in Drill is way worse than it was 5 years ago, when we arrived. I was forced to grow up very fast. Everyone takes advantage of the people who came from other planets; they make them their slaves and even kill them. My dad still works in the mines and my mom works now too, because everyone on Drill has to work. I stay in the house alone for many hours every day. Also, we have to hide our talismans, because foreigners don't have the right to luxuries; at least that's what the Drilites say.
