We got a good distance away again when Kit looked at me with a grin.
"What's so funny?"
I stopped to catch my breath.
She coughed out a giggle before she could get her breathing under control. "I was just thinking': Neither one of those guys is gonna be walkin' right fer a while."
We both tried to smother our laughter.
Kit looked up and noticed something looming over the trees. "Is that what I think it is? Looks just like the one from my visions." She jutted her chin in the direction.
I looked up and saw the same thing. An old, and very creepy, lookin' castle. "My kinda place..." "To us right now, it's an escape card."
We jogged up the withered road we found and soon enough we came to the front of the castle's single door.
Kit quickly banged the huge knocker a few times. "Hello? Is anyone home?"
We stood there for a while but no one answered.
I quickly grew frustrated. "Ugh!" I swung my arm out and punched the door. As my fist made contact the door pooped out of its lock and slowly swung open.
Kit looked at me with a funny smile. "That was convenient."
"I know, right?"
Man, this pace was huUGE! I lie to you not. We saw glass cups sitting on the draining board by the sink and filled one with water. We both sucked down a glass before filling it up again for our "tour".
We had just finished the first floor and were walking up a large banister to see the next floor.
I know that this is wrong but I can't help myself... so cool...
We had just made it up the flight of stairs when we spotted a large library at the end of the hall. Getting excited we half ran through the large archway and on into the room. The fire place on the opposite side was huge! But the embers were cool so it meant no one had been there for a while. The shelves of books stretched from ceiling to floor and lined every wall 'cept the large space left for the fireplace and a desk in the corner. What really got our attention was the fact that a creepy old mansion/medieval castle had a high-tech computer that a computer fanatic would die for.
I lightly ran my hand over the keyboard, wanting to see what kind of games and programming this bad-boy had. Hell, why not?
I had just clicked the space bar to light up the computer screen when Kitara reached over and grabbed my hand. "What do ya think yer doin'?"
I was about to reply when I saw an icon that caught my attention. "No way..."
"What?" She leaned over my shoulder, as eager as I.
I clicked the icon that looked like a falcon's eyes. "It must be the newest high-tech security system." I clicked through the camera sightings to look over the territory belonging to the mansion. The cameras were everywhere! "Let me check something..." I scanned through the files as quick as my eyes could follow. Within a minute I had found what I was looking for and something odd.
"There are plenty of security cameras but there isn't a single alarm or lockdown grid. It's like the people living hear just wanna know who comes and goes." I stared at the screen, trying to think of reasons.
"What is that Al?" She pointed over my shoulder at the folder I was about to open.
I opened it only to be blocked by a password locked zipper folder.
Kitara leaned onto my shoulder. "Now what?"
I thought for a second. "Well this is a new model to me that I've never seen before. But on the bright side, this computer wasn't locked down like it should have been."
"Meaning what?"
"Meaning, the person who got this doesn't know its full potential and never got around to personally modify its systems. A guy from school told me that all security systems start with the same passwords for every file within them." I tapped the zero key seven times followed by the word "secure" with no space between them. After I had hit the enter key the zipped folder opened and displayed a video recorded history.
"Who told ya this?" I could feel her glare through the back of my head.
"Uh, Gabe." I whispered.
She pushed down the light barrier in my mind and scanned my recent thought. "No way! Gay Gabe!? Our BEST FRIEND Gay Gabe?" She couldn't believe it.
I didn't at first either until he showed me how he got into top secret government military files all the time. "I know. But our hot gay friend, who's such a looker, has a really troublesome hobby of hacking into things he shouldn't..."
It was quiet for a second while she breezed through the information in my mind on the secrets Gabe told me not to tell her cause she would get mad. He knew I couldn't hide it from her forever. I lost the bet on how long I could keep it from her. I hate loosing a bet to Gabe. There goes next week's pay... I sighed.
Kitara pointed to one of the video recorded history files over my shoulder, the latest one on camera number one. I clicked it. A video opened up on the new software and began to play. The camera was placed out front of the door we had came in. I sped up the vid until we came in. Opening the same vid on a movie editor I edited out the section where Kitara and I had came in before saving it as the original video.
"Wait, won't that leave a giant time gap that someone'll notice?" Kitara asked.
"It doesn't matter if they notice or not. This way they won't know who trespassed and can't blame us for anything." I eyed the cup in her hands. "We'll have to wash that out and make sure that our fingerprints aren't on it or the sink."
"Right." She eyed the computer. "What about the camera. It'll catch us on the way out."
I shook my head. I clicked the Falcon's Eyes icon again to pull up the main system's control panel. Clicking through everything with the mouse I quickly programmed the first camera to go offline temporarily, and then go through a rebooting process. After I was sure it worked I exited out of everything, closing the programs and whatnot.
I stood and moved the chair back in. Pulling a bandana out of my pocket I quickly wiped down the keys, mouse and screen. I checked for prints one last time before I put the computer on standby mode which turned the screen dark. I wiped the mouse down again to be sure I didn't leave any smudges.
Kitara looked at me. "How much time do we have before that thing gets back online?"
"Ten minutes. Let's hurry."
