I woke with the sun in my eyes. As I stretched my arms above my head I peaked at the digital clock above the TV on the far side of the room.

Only eight? Why am I up so early?

I scratched the back of my head and decided that since I was up I might as well put some food in my stomach. I looked over and eyed the empty bed across from mine. I Guess Kit's up...

A voice brushed the edge of my mind just as I stood up. "Al, you're up. Want somethin' ta eat?"

I sighed. "Yeah, sure. I'm in the mood for pancakes."

"Same here. I'll get the stuff together while you get dressed." With that her presence left my mind.

I put on my usual Saturday outfit: a dark blue beater, a pair of black sweatpants that were a size too small so I could pull up the leggings and wear them as caprices, and a ratty pair of black and white chucks. Knowing that my hair was going to get in the way I tied it back with a black bandanna.

I walked into the kitchen and eyed Kit as she took her pills. She wore the same outfit as me but a bit different. Her beater was a dark red and she wore her sweatpants as she bought them, plus, her chucks were a lot cleaner than mine.

"I guess we're so hungry 'cause we didn't eat dinner last night. Let's cook." She said after chugging some water to get down the pills.

As we starting mixing the concoction and dumping it in the pan it got really quiet.

"Where's the babes?" I asked suddenly.

She shrugged her shoulders. "Donno., haven't seen 'em. They're probably out with the guys."

I yawned. Man, why am I so tired? I must've slept for almost eleven hours last night...

"Hey, if your still tired like this all the time your gonna have to start takin' those vitamins again." Kit waved the spatula in my face.

I pushed it aside. "I ain't takin' no meds, no kind of pills at all."

She waved the dreadful "now a weapon" in my face again. "I'll force 'em down ya throat if I have ta."

I waved my hand. "Yeah yeah." I flipped the last pancake out of the pan. "Food's ready."

We sat down and ate quietly while the news channel was on the TV.

"Cloudy skies but no rain today..." Kit said out of the blue.

I turned to look at her. "What'cha thinkin'?"

"Alex." She turned in her seat and smiled. "Lets go hiking!"

I looked at her, sure of the shocked expression on my face. "Huh? Why?"

"It's a perfect day, you love days like this, lets go!" She quickly jumped out of her seat and took her empty plate to the sink to wash it off. As she turned around she caught me with my nose in her pill bottle. "What are you doin'?"

I closed the bottle and picked up my empty plate to wash it in the sink. "Nothin'. Just seein' if someone put weed in your meds."

"Wha? What for?"

I looked at her. "Seriously? Are you high?" she gave me a look that said she didn't understand what I was talking about. "Remember what your premonitions have been like lately? The woods, a castle. It ain't a good idea. That's why I had us walk around the woods last night."

Kit ran into the bedroom and started packing her backpack. "It'll be fine! Maybe it was a premonition to show us that we were just gonna go on a hike. No biggy."

I leaned against the doorway and folded my arms across my chest as I watched her run around the room to grab more supplies to shove into her pack. "What about that castle you saw?"

She kept shoving things in her pack. "Maybe we'll find ancient ruins and that castle is just part of it! This is gonna be so awesome!"

I rubbed my forehead. No use, just go wit the flow...

I grabbed my backpack out of the closet and packed it with the usual supplies plus some extra things I usually wind up needing on longer trips. Before I knew it, we had left a sign on the TV in the living room telling the guys what we were doing and we were in the car on our way to the woods.
