I saw out of my peripheral vision as Kit dipped low and rolled her upper torso till her shoulders were arched back, her left arm placed slightly behind her head and her right hand was at chest level, palm up. This was her high placed snake stance. This was her defense against opponents she had never faced before. This stance she could easily strike out to test weak spots and easily dodge attacks. Her kung fu on top of her psychic abilities were a force to be reckoned with.

My naginata was a nasty piece of work. The black pole itself was as tall as me. The slightly curved blade sat on top like a sword, except the inside curve was a smooth blade whereas the opposite side was jagged like a fish’s spine. The western dragon engraved in the blade seemed to get bigger until all you could see was the dragon’s spike-crowned head and his fully bared fangs.

Seeing as how there were two men on my side I grabbed the top of the pole right under the sword with my right hand. There was the sound of  metal detaching as the pole and sword became two separate pieces. I stood at full height and spun the weapons with ease.

The man who had come out of the basement pushed the overly-large sweater wearing woman who was with him back into the kitchen before he faced Kit.

The man with silver hair stood and smirked at me. He spoke to the man Kit faced. “Michael. These two were roaming our territory.”

Michael’s voice was very deep as he spoke, but his tone held no threat. “Is that so Gregori? Then how did they manage to roam around freely in my home?”

The man from the door stepped in and approached me. He had a no-nonsense attitude about him. As he glared at me a pressure hit my head. It hurt like someone had smacked me upside the head pretty hard with their hand.

I shook it off and reinforced the barriers in my mind. The sensation become like a tickle against my brain.

The man narrowed his eyes. “Who do you think you are to trespass into another’s home?” His voice was demanding.

I pointed my sword at him, blade side down, a warning not to try to get near me. “Who do you think you are to try to manhandle girls the way you did out in the woods ass-hat?”

“Be careful of this young one Byron. She seems to like to insult her elders.” The man called Gregori smiled. His perfectly even and white teeth made his smile nearly irresistible.

The one called Byron ignored my insult. He folded his ripped arms across his broad chest. “I demand to know why you are here.” He sounded a little too pompous for my tastes.

Michael kept his body between Kit and the woman behind him. She didn‘t seem worried in the least. Her long black wavy hair fell down her back and framed her pretty face. She pulled on Michael’s sleeve irritably once.

He placed a hand over hers as he talked to Byron. “Brother, do not intimidate them too much. We cannot afford to hurt these two young women.”

“We’re gonna do the hurtin’ buddy if you don’t get out of my way.” Kit narrowed her eyes and made her stance more firm. “Why aren’t they attacking?” Her uneasiness was starting to float through our connection.

I tried to push my worry aside and force my determination through to her. “Don’t worry. We got this.” I could sense that the two men in front of me were waiting for a queue from the guy behind me. I was guessing he held more of an authority over the other two. “Think he’s the ringleader for this circus?”

Staying on top of my thoughts she replied instantly. “Yep.”

“Alright.” I said out loud. “We don’t want to hurt anyone. So just let us leave and we’ll find our own way home.”
