(Prologue)

Rachel Barnes had always been infatuated with the glimmering stars in the night sky. As a child anything that had a star design or was simple star shape, she wanted. She would sometimes see herself as her very own star. She found hope and comfort in the heavenly bodies of fire. She had always hoped to find her own star, one that could light up the world when it was dim, one that could bring her comfort when she was sad. And one she could kiss and hold hands with in the broad daylight. When she and her father had moved to Los Angeles she had never suspected she would find her star, stealing trinkets in a melrose store. And she was surprised even more when her star was in fact a girl.

Rachel had just moved into her new house. The neighborhood wasn't all that good, but it was something they could afford so she didn't bother. Her dad was excited about a fresh new start but Rachel was filled with dread more than happiness. She had missed her old friends back in Oregon and wished they didn't have to move, but that was all in the past and Rachel looked more towards the future. Rachel was a more cup half empty kind of guy while her father was a cup half full. Her mother however was the bigger question. She had left when the girl was a baby leaving Rachel and her dad by themselves, She assumes all her negative outlooks on life are because of her, seeing how her dad is so cheery all the time. But even without a mother figure her dad still managed to fill in both parts.

After finally settling into the new home a woman named Melanie Freeland stopped by, giving a 'Welcome to the neighborhood!' gesture. She was nice and had made them cookies going on about how Rachel and her daughter Tracy were going to the same school. Rachel was a bit excited to meet this Tracy girl but then again teenagers could be mean as fuck.

When Rachel and Tracy had finally met it was sort of awkward. Tracy was walking her dog with her other friend Noel when she had spotted Rachel sitting on the stairs of a playground listening to her iPod. Rachel noticed the girl and waved with a bright smile before Tracy beckoned her to the sidewalk she was standing on.  Rachel reluctantly followed and shook hands with both girls

"Uh hi, Rachel, This is Noel. I thought you'd like to meet her." Noel gave a warm smile.

"Uh hi, what are you guys doing?" She asked with a small touch of anxiety

"Oh we're walking her dog, her mom's gonna take her shopping in like 30 minutes," Noel answered for blondie.

As the girls continued talking she realized that these two wouldn't be so harsh, I mean sure they were a bit childish but aren't we all?

"Anyways we've got to go, See you later Rachel!" Tracy bided her a due with a bright smirk as she and Noel ran back home.

Rachel cheered in her head as she had finally made a new friend. Tracy Freeland was now the happy girl next door, but days later that would change significantly.

Rachel Barnes thinking thirteen was going to be her year was a big mistake,

  a very big one indeed.
