Goldenpaw had heard the wail. She had felt the pain. Why am I in pain? she had worried. It's-it's excruciating! Someone-- anyone, help! Help! The pain had faded away by now. But, she was still scared. Why did she suddenly feel such terrible pain in her paw? She had never felt random pain before. This was completely new. She searched for Owlwhisker-- her pale brown pelt, her sharp amber eyes, anything!

"Owlwhisker!" she yowled. "Please! Come help!" Owlwhisker emerged from a bush.

"What happened? Nothing seems to be wrong." Owlwhisker meowed, confused. She inspected Goldenpaw carefully, but Owlwhisker didn't seem to find anything wrong with her. "Are you tricking me, Goldenpaw? You'd better not be tricking me, or else you'll clean the elders' den for a moon."

"No!" Goldenpaw yelped. "I had this pain in my paw, for no reason, and I didn't do anything to it..."

"I just saw Stormpaw," Owlwhisker mewed, realizing something. "She dislocated her paw. It was bent backward, and.... I won't get into details. I think you two might share a special link that only some siblings have. It's very rare. You can sense each other, and in some cases, read each other's minds. You were feeling her pain, no doubt. I believe you two share a link. I'll consult Twilightclaw about it, though."

Goldenpaw's eyes widened in surprise. A special link? Does that mean she had powers, in a way? That's so cool! Me and Stormpaw have powers!

"Did you catch anything?" Owlwhisker asked.

"I did." Goldenpaw mewed. "But I left them in the ground... The pain was absolutely terrible." Owlwhisker sat down.

"Tell me more."

"Well, at first it was excruciating. But I think Stormpaw went back to camp, and the pain began to fade away slowly.."

"It sounds like your link is stronger than I originally thought. Your link can only go so far, though. Training your minds to hear each other and sense each other could be good for the Clan. I want you to tell this to Stormpaw when she recovers and start training your minds. We're going to keep this a secret for as long as possible. Okay?" Owlwhisker whispered. Goldenpaw nodded. "You two could be real assets to the Clan. I hope you use this link for good."

Author's Note:

Hey, everyone! I hope you're enjoying my book. The only thing I don't really like about my writing is the fact that it goes so terribly fast. Idk, I just don't like the fact that I can only stretch my chapters to be 1-2 pages long. :/ Whatever xD
