This story takes place directly after the war with Gaea.
~Percy~
I've only been helping with repairs around Camp for three days, though it feels like longer. The Hephaestus cabin hasn't been the same since Leo died, working furiously to make and repair weapons. They were working a little too ferociously, though. It soon became common to hear a explosion then lots of curses from the direction of the forge.
The rest of the seven weren't doing to great either. Piper and Jason seemed to be getting it the hardest, though, since they were Leo's friends the longest.
And I'm still confused. Yesterday, Nico had run up to me and told me that he had had a crush on me? But I'm not his type? Like, what was that about? I didn’t even know the guy liked guys. And Annabeth just laughed at my confusion and called me a Seaweed Brain insted of explaining. Rude.
Anyways, I was helping some Hermes kids reorganize the camp shop when one of the younger campers- George, I think, he's new- ran in, looking for me. My head popped up from where I was working in the back and I walked over, setting a bronze helmet on the display in the window.
"Hey. What's up?" I asked with a smile. It's always important to seem easy going to make everyone else feel more comfortable, even in stressful situations.
"Chiron is looking for you," He replied, a little out of breath.
My smile melted. What happened this time? What did I do? Frowning, I thanked the boy before jogging off to go and find my centaur mentor. He was pacing at the archery range, his tail flicking as he was deep in thought. When he noticed me coming towards him his face relaxed a little. So it wasn't a very urgent matter then. He'd never be relaxed upon seeing me off all people otherwise.
"Is everything ok?" I asked him warily.
"Percy, have you visited your mother since the war ended?" He asked. I faltered, hesitating.
"Not yet, the camp still needs me here. Why?"
"Why don't you take some time off and go visit her? You haven't seen her in nearly a year after all."
The thought of seeing my mom again almost had me perking up instantly. Though I loved the thought of it, I had to make sure first.
"What if they need me here?" I asked, my heart sinking again as I thought of anything and everything that could happen where they might need my help. "Another wave of monsters could come, and the Romans left already so we'd be down fighters-"
"Percy," Chiron interrupted my fretting. "Go home. We will be fine here. Stay as long as you need. We still have everyone else, remember. And the camp is doing better than I honestly would have expected after two wars in almost two years. It'll be alright. I can always Iris Message you if need be."
The reassurance was all I needed, apparently, be ause I was already running towards my cabin before I even noticed I was moving. "Thanks, Chiron!" I yelled over my shoulder as I ran. He chucked and waved in reply, because I was already out of hearing range.
Gathering up my stuff didn't take long. Riptide was already in my jeans pocket, and I'd shoved my spare clothes into my backpack the first day. I gathered up my things from around the cabin and went to find my friends to tell them the plan.
I had Argus drop me off a few blocks away from home. I wanted to get some walking done today, and I don't think any more New Yorkers should see Argus with his hundreds of eyes. I did not feel like getting the big guy out of a car wreck and back to camp on foot. Again.
