Bruce had us all wait in the lab while the kids- KIDS- fought the thing they'd felt stalking us. My hands were tied, because I did NOT want to cross the path of that scary blonde. She reminded me too much of an angrier, scarier, more hostile version of Pepper.
So I pulled up the live camera feed and we all watched them from there. The four of them were chatting when Percy stepped forward and started yelling insults. And he clearly enraged something, because a bark figure leapt at him from the shadows. It was my instinct to run out there and help, I hated being a sitting duck.
But I quickly realized that those four needed no help of mine. It was four against one, and while the- Percy called it a manticore?- was huge, and had a weird tail with built in projectiles, they seemed almost bored. Within a minute they had the thing cornered. They let Annabeth and Nico share the kill.
The thing exploded into golden powder, and I took that as our cue that it was safe to leave. So I ran from the labs to find the kids. I trusted Percy a lot more, I thought, since he'd admitted why he was so strange acting. He was a freaking demigod! Like a mini half-Thor? I ran up the stairs while I thought.
"Percy?" I asked as I ran into the room. The four looked rather grim, but otherwise completely unharmed.
"We're alright," Percy assured me. The other Avengers fell in behind me and walked over to the kids.
"Right. So, who wants lunch?" Steve asked. I noticed it was pretty late into the day already. Apparently time flies when there are four teenagers battling a Greek monster upstairs. Percy offered to help make lunch, since we never got to eat the pancakes he'd been making when I was woken up. Although I didn't want to, I pulled Annabeth aside.
"Um, listen, so I noticed Percy's really happy with you and stuff-"
"What?" She asked, crossing her arms over her chest, her grey eyes flashing with challenge.
"While he was here- Percy was having pretty bad nightmares? I'm not sure if that happens to all of you guys? But like, he'd wake us all up by screaming and stuff. And last night he didn't, I think seeing you helped with that? So I guess I'm thanking you?" It came out as more of a question.
Annabeth sagged a little. "Dreams are normal for demigods, yes. But for me and Percy, they're ten times worse. Nico, too, I think. Because- we didn't tell you guys about that part. I'm not ready to talk about it. Probably never will be ready. I'll just say, me and Percy went on a one way trip and barely came back. Nico had to do it alone. So yeah, the three of us have some pretty bad ones. Percy and I help each other, usually we just need to know that the other is still alive."
I felt really taken aback. Sure, I'd just learned that these kids were half god, but I literally live with a god when he's on earth, so that much wasn't really a surprise. What was surprising was how much implied shit these kids have been through. I mean, I think someone said they'd been in at least one war? Maybe? Or maybe I was picking up on dropped hints, I don't know. Even I know I drink too much to know this sort of stuff.

The demigods had been with the Avengers for two weeks, Percy, almost two months. While Natasha quickly befriended Annabeth, Clint and Will also grew close thanks to archery stuff. Nico held a grudging respect for Captain America since they were from the same timeline.
Natasha and Annabeth were going to their rooms to change after a practice fight when they heard a yelp from Percy and Annabeth's room. The two women ran in to find Percy on the bed, staring at the widow.
