Jameson
I pace the length of the waiting room while chewing on my nails. It's a bad habit I have in stressful situations, and right now, I'm beyond stressed. I'm the one who called the doctor. I'm the one who made the safe arrangements, yet I'm the one who isn't allowed to the back to see about my woman. Fuck me.
I know I'm not her husband, and I'm not Reece's husband but I don't need a ring to solidify how I feel about them. Those two are perfect for me and I'll never let them go. I just wish it were legal for us three to be married, because this will always be an issue. God forbid something happen to them both. I squeeze my eyes tight against the thought and when I open them, Reece is standing in the doorway looking at me. The peace in his eyes has me exhaling. I go to him and he chuckles when I wrap him up tight in my arms.
"It's the flu love. Aggressive form of it but she will live," Reece says as I pull back to look at him. I inhale and then give him a weak smile. "We are taking her home. I requested it, but they insisted we get a nurse out every day until Madison's breathing improves."
"No, I have my own staff. I will get a nurse here. I don't know anyone other than the doctor." My voice leaves no room for discussion so Reece nods.
"I know you'll take care of her."
"Yes, I can but if something were to happen to the both of you, something that not even my connections can handle, then I'm fucked." I grit out.
"What are you talking about?" Reece asks as he gives me a quizzical look. I let out a frustrated sigh before running my hand through my tussled hair.
"I am nothing to either of you, legally. I may be a boyfriend but if both of you are injured beyond my repair, I will have to depend on your love ones to feed me information. The thought of it burns me up." Reece surprises me by pulling me to him by my collar and slamming his lips to mine. I gasp into his mouth as I wrap my arms back around his waist and pull him tight against me. The kiss is gentle and when we pull apart, I rest my forehead against his.
"All of us being married isn't legal in the United States," Reece begins with an exhale. "But, both Madison and I can write up a legal document that gives you all the rights as our husband, should something happen. You'll no doubt have to carry this with you at all times, but it will give you what we all desperately want."
"And what is that?" I husk as I grip Reece's chin and stare into his perfect eyes.
"Love, unconditional, for the rest of our lives."
"You love me," I choke out as the back of my eyes begin to burn.
"You'd have to be blind, deaf, and dumb to not see how much Madison and I love and trust you."
A throat clears before I have a chance to respond so I don't. I blink rapidly as I turn to see a nurse holding the handles to the wheelchair that has Madison in it. I smile at the tired looking woman, and she gives me a soft smile back.
"Um," the nurse begins. She clears her throat nervously before plastering on a strained smile. "The doctor has called in her prescription and he wanted me to make sure you understood that she needed to be monitored at all times until her symptoms lighten." I give her curt nod, while Reece takes the wheelchair. Madison doesn't say much of anything as we take her out to my SUV. Once we are home, we lay her down before I send one of my guards to pick up her prescription. I then get on the phone and call in one of my male nurses that work with me. He's usually there to revive someone I'm not done with, but this call will be one of importance.
"Jameson, long time no hear. Who's the poor unfortunate soul this time." Kylen's voice graces the speaker and I shudder in a way I haven't in years.
"No one. My woman needs your assistance."
"Woman? You're tied down now, Priest Jameson?"
"Don't call me that!" I snap into the phone as I pinch the bridge of my nose. "Look, I'm not a fuckin' priest anymore. I'm in a committed relationship with a married couple." The words for some reason sound like salt on my tongue.
"Wait. What?"... Kylen says slowly.
"I don't have time to explain, you will see soon enough because I need you in Seattle before sun down."
"Alright. Ping me your location and I'll be there." Kylen sighs and I hang up the phone as I blow out a long breath. Explaining to my long term friend my situation is going to be a goddamn challenge, but oh fucking well. I'll explain the dynamic and won't give a fuck what he thinks.
Hours later there's a knock on my office door. I know it's not Reece or Madison because they are both napping. So I slowly pull my pistol from the strap on my ankle and wait.
"Who is it?"
"Open the damn door Jameson. I was knee deep in ass when you called me to the rescue." Standing I walk over to my office door and sling it open. When I see Kylen looking at me, I smile. He doesn't because he's eyeing my gun.
"What the hell have you gotten yourself into? Right before I got on the plane news reached my ears about you pissing off the Irish, that true?" I drag Kylen into my office and he yanks away from me.
"Look, I am not here for the bullshit, Jameson. You tell me what the hell is going on or I'm not taking care of your..." I watch Kylen's throat work as he swallows. His eyes get that familiar glint in them and I have to remind myself of our history. He's always been a friend but wanted something more. We went to high school together and if I'm honest, he was my first crush. His hair is still long as shit. The braid he wears sweeping across the small of his back, and so blonde it looks white. I haven't seen him in two long years, and it seems that during that time he's worked on his physic. He's barely six feet but his once lanky figure is filled out with hard muscles that I can see on his forearms. My gaze flickers up to Kylen's face and the look in his eyes is one of pure hope, yet confusion.
"I--" I clear my throat before walking pass him. "I was protecting Reece, my...lover, well one of my lovers."
"Wait, you're fucking a guy?"
"I said a married couple on the phone, Kylen."
"Yeah, well lesbian women can get married! I thought it was two women!"
"Lower your fuckin' voice before I shut you the fuck up with my fist!" I roar and Kylen turns on his heels no doubt ready to storm out. It is then that the office door flies open and a frantic looking Reece rushes in. He stops dead in his tracks when he see's Kylen. I watch as my baby boy looks him up and down before a faint blush paints his cheeks. Kylen looks back at me before looking back at Reece.
"What is it love," I finally find my voice as I go to Reece.
"M-Madison's fever is spiking." Reece says softly. "Is the nurse here?" He side eyes Kylen before looking back at me.
"Reece, this is Kylen." I introduce the two and when Kylen smiles, I exhale. "Kylen, this is Reece."
"Nice to meet you, Reece." Kylen says with a genuine smile. They shake hands and I feel something odd right in the center of my chest. "If you would go to your wife and give me a moment to go grab my things from the rental, I will be right up to help her out." Reece nods slowly before gripping my hand tightly. He begins to pull me out of my office and the last thing I see is the single tear that slips down Kylen's face.
Fuck me.
