Victoria had become accustomed to the dark. They preferred her that way. If she was in the dark, she couldn't use her powers. They knew she was strong enough to over power them by now, so she spent her days locked in the dark, drugged, tied up with a blind fold and headphones. So she never noticed someone had entered her cell until she felt them remove the blindfold and headphones before moving on to the ropes that kept her in the chair. She looked up, her eyes trying to acclimate to the light as she came face to face with a man with soft blue green eyes. He wore a blue cowl and a ridiculous blue costume. She heard him speak, but not to her.
"Tony, I have someone. I'm bringing them back to the compound."
Tony. She once knew a Tony, but that was a long time ago. He had probably long forgot about her. She hears the man with the gentle blue eyes trying to get her attention.
"Are you okay? Can you stand? I'm here to help you, I promise I won't hurt you."
She doesn't say anything as she touches his hand. She sees flashes of his life; the army, the experiment. He was the product of a government experiment like her. He had been fighting a long time, he was a good fighter. But somehow she wasn't afraid of him. She saw what his biggest desire was; he didn't want to fight. What he craved most was for someone to love him as much as he had loved this girl in his head. Her name was... Peggy? Victoria had once felt the love he had for this woman that still haunted his dreams, but that was long gone by now. The emotions he felt for this woman made tears start to fall down her cheeks.
"What did you just do?"
She felt the man pull his hand away from her, he was scared of her. She could tell by his face, she had seen it so many times by now. Fear and pity. That's what she saw when she looked at him.
Victoria shoves her hands into her pockets, "I'm sorry. I'm Victoria. I needed to know if I could trust you. I won't do it again, please. Don't be scared of me." She watched him as he unclenched his jaw, visibly relaxing. He didn't lose the pity look though.
"It's okay. I'm Steve." She feels him gently place his hand on her back, "let's get you out of here. And then we can talk."
She was surprised at how soft he became. He changed almost instantly. She wasn't use to someone being so calm in her presence without her making them that way.**************************************
Victoria rides in a jet with Steve and an attractive red head that introduced herself as Natasha. Steve trusted her, and Victoria trusted Steve, so she didn't use her powers on Natasha the way she did with Steve. They take her to what seems to be a lab with another man they introduce as Bruce. She reached out to touch Bruce's hand and grabs it before Steve can stop her. She is overcome with anger. Another experiment; this time a failed one. Had they all been experimented on? Anger, pain, shame. She falls to her knees unable to take anymore when she feels Steve at her side.
"Are you okay? Victoria?"
She looks up at the faces, fear and pity. She couldn't place what she saw in Steve's though. It was something new she hadn't seen from someone before. He helped her sit on the exam table. "I'm fine." Victoria turned to Bruce, "I'm sorry."
Bruce takes a step towards her, "it's okay. Just don't look in my head again, okay?"
Victoria just nods and looks down. She hears Natasha tell Steve that people named Tony and Wanda had arrived.
"So, your name is Victoria, what's your last name?"
She turns back to Bruce as she hears someone enter behind her, "my name is Victoria Stark." She looks around at everyone's faces when she said her last name. "What?" She turned around and saw a man walking up to her. He looked just her father had, before he died, before she was taken.
"Vicky?" He seemed like he knew her. They had called him Tony, but he couldn't have been.
"Tony?" Before she could say anything else she felt a searing pain in her head. "Ahhh!" She yelled as she put her hands to her head, it felt like it was coming apart. Someone was trying to read her mind. She projected the pain back at the source and saw the woman that had walked in with Tony fall backwards and the pain stopped. "What are you doing?"
The girl gets up, seemingly shocked. "I'm sorry, I was trying to read your mind. How did you keep me out?"
"I'm not really sure. I can sometimes send it back. "I'm sorry if I hurt you. I'm Victoria."
The girl smiles, "I'm Wanda. I can't wait to see what else you can do."
"Um, hello?" Tony couldn't help but draw the attention back to him.
She turns back to the man that looked like her father. "You can't be."
"I can't be? You can't be."
The man wraps her in a hug and she uses the opportunity like she did with the others. He was who she was hoping he would be. He was her older brother. She saw him looking for her. Mourning her, over and over again. Being captured himself, leading to the birth of Ironman. The emotion was too much for her to take so she changed it. She sent out waves of calm to both him and herself as he let go. "I'm sorry, I hope that's okay. I couldn't take it any longer. When I touch someone, whatever they feel, it's a hundred times worse for me."
"It's fine. I don't even know where to begin." Tony looks to Bruce, "I guess you have some tests to make. Like for one, why does she look like she only aged a few years. I mean, she was taken when she was 15. But now she looks like she can't be more than 25."
"I was put on ice, and brought out when they wanted to experiment on me, or train me, or send me on missions."
She hears Natasha behind her tell Tony, "Bucky and Sam are back."
Victoria hears the name, it couldn't be, "Bucky?" She looks behind her as her heart sinks to her stomach. She watches as he walks into the room, as if it was normal for him to be there. All she felt at first was anger, and she knew it was all her own. "What is he doing here?" She lunges towards who she saw as only The Winter Soldier, hitting him square in the face. He didn't fight back though, he only blocked as she continued to hit him. She kicked him square in the chest, sending him backwards.
"Hey! What the fuck?!"
She feels someone pull her away and she knelt on the ground as she sent all she could muster to his head. She watched The Winter Soldier fall to his knees, screaming. Writhing in pain as he laid on the floor clutching his head. She heard Steve's voice break through the anguish she was feeling.
"Victoria. Stop please!" She looked Steve in his eyes; his pleading eyes, and she let go. Steve turned back to Sam, "get him out of here."
Steve looked back at her, his arms still around her as she knelt on the floor. It was her who was pleading this time, "please, don't let him back in here." She felt the control over her emotions diminish as she started to cry again. Steve held her as she did. She felt safe for the first time in a long time. She knew that Steve had something to do with that.
"I won't. I promise."
Victoria couldn't figure out why he was being so nice to her, she certainly didn't deserve it. Was he always like this? She had an inkling that he was, but she told him she wouldn't read his mind anymore. So she just had to trust him.
