When we opened the door Kylee, Hunter, and I realized not only was my car gone but so was the person I left in it for nine hours. "Aw, man!" I say like a little kid who just got put into time out. "Brooklyn," said Kylee angrily.
"Yeah?"
"Where's your car?"
"Yes Brooklyn where is you car?" Chimed in Hunter.
"Well, we parked right there," I pointed to the empty spot right in front of us, "but my cars not there anymore," I respond.
"Did you just miss park it?" Hunter says clearly frustrated.
"No she parked right there I was with her." Said Kylee
"Whoops. Does that mean I have to get another lecture because I swear I didn't lose it this time. Kylee even vouched for me," I say turning to Hunter.
"Brooklyn. Office. Now," Hunter said as he just now realized this was the 3rd car I lost in the two past months. The three of us walk back into the building. Kylee turned left to go to the break room while Hunter and I continued down the hall. He walked behind me like how a principle would when he has to get a small child in trouble, with power and sympathy. The walk down the hall feels like it takes forever and it feels even longer when I had to walk from the door to the chair in front of his desk. I sit down and immediately look at my shoes. Hunter stands behind his desk looking for the misconduct for that all employees have to fill out when they do something wrong. It has all of the standard questions like what happened, how do you feel about it, was it avoidable, how many people were killed? You know the basics. "Brooklyn, it seems like I hand you one of these every other day," Hunter says while handing me the paper.
"That's because you do," I say under my breath. His deep green eyes stare and me intensely, I can tell he's really disappointed this time. "The last person who got this many we had to fire," he sighed, "Brooklyn I don't want to fire you. You might mess up a lot and get more people injured than you should, but in the end you've completed more missions than a good portion of the senior staff."
"Are you going to fire me?" I say finally looking at him.
"I can't make that decision. Your going to have to go to the board of review," now he was the one looking away, "Your appointment with them is for next Saturday until then you are suspended for all missions. I'll drive you home." I stand up and walk out of his office with him close on my heels. My chest feels like it was just hit with a ton of bricks. I go down the hall into the break room looking for Kylee. I finally spot her. "I'm going home," I tell her with tears in my eyes.
