"Oh come on. With this look I would definitely say that you are around twenty-three or twenty-five years old. I want to know, the real one."

"Wow, I didn't think your guess was right." He chuckles. "I was indeed twenty-four years old when I was reborn to be what I am now. And that happened a hundred and fifty years ago." I gulped. I seem fall in love with an old man. "I was living in Healy at the time, alone with my mother. My father died when I was about seventeen years old. My mother and I both worked in the mines, here in Healy. We often come home late, but whatever happens I always go home with my mother. I can't possibly let my mother walk alone. Amidst the dark night and cold air."

His eyes shifted from mine, and he looked retrieving his memories. "One night, in winter. The two of us were walking from where we worked. It's a windy winter by the way. Out of sudden, we were intercepted by a mysterious group of people. There are three people. Two men and a woman. I feel like something bad will happen as soon as I see them. And sure enough, without any words, they quickly attacked my mother and me. Each of the men attacked my mother and me. While the woman remained silent, as if just staring at the chaos. They're so strong, I can't fight back at all. From where I was, I could see that my mother was lying weak. She was lifeless.

"I don't know what made the mysterious woman suddenly approached me who was helpless in the man's grip. She then pushed the man away from me. It was clear that the woman was much stronger than the others. I still remember, she said 'you have great abilities', then bite me, right in my neck. With that bite, I felt an excruciating headache that I had never felt in my life. It felt like my head was really going to explode. As well as other parts of my body. It seemed that each of them could no longer endure the excruciating pain. I can't breathe either. I told myself, I wouldn't be able to survive.

"A few minutes later, I felt something stir in my body. The pain drastically disappeared. Suddenly I felt very healthy, and strong. There is not the slightest bit of pain inside of me. Even I can easily get up, without any difficulty. My view, my hearing, became very, very clear over everything. As well as my sense of smell. I'm so clueless about what happened to me. Until I finally saw that mysterious woman grinning in front of me while saying, 'now you're a part of us'. I don't understand what she means. Then I smell the blood which somehow, it makes me very thirsty. The blood came from my mother's.

"All at once all I felt was tremendous anger, and I attacked the woman. The other two men tried to hold me back, but in vain. When I was about to finish off that woman, she said 'I have turned you into someone new, you are the strongest, you are now a vampire'. I was getting angry hearing her babble, so I killed her right away. The two men were surprised by what I had done. They were frightened and tried to escape. But I will not remain silent, I run after them, and finish them one by one." He smiles again, and her eyes return to mine. "That's how I got to be what I am now, D."

I didn't think that there was a sad and creepy story in Tom's life at the same time. "I ... I'm sorry about your mother."

He smiles then stroke my hair. "It's been years though."

"Then you were living alone then?"

"Yes, I am nomadic. From place to place. But I always choose a place that tends to be quiet from the surrounding population. Until finally I met Ayden, Chara, and my other friends. We're the only group in Alaska. And they always think of me as the leader." So this is why the others respect Tom so much.

"Well, they did it right, by making you as their leader. You deserve it, Capt." I smile widely.

He chuckles. "Oh, don't call me that way," Then he shifted and unzipped the tent. "Delilah, it's time. Come here." He led me out of the tent.
