Chapter Song: I Put a Spell On You by Annie Lennox

"What do you mean she's not a virgin?" My grandpa roars turning around facing me, his face red in anger.

My grandmas eyes widen as she stares at her husband in bewilderment. I look up at my grandpa with disbelief meanwhile Sophia has an amused look on her face as she watches the scene unfold in front of her.

"She's lying! I swear I'm still a virgin!" I cry out.

"If you're a virgin why do you dress that way?!" He yells causing my grandma to gasp.

"Richard!"

"I'm a virgin who dresses like a whore!"

My grandpa scoffs and my grandma sighs shaking her head all while Sophia is laughing hysterically in her seat behind them loving what she was watching.

My grandpa sighs shaking his head.

"You better be a virgin Maria. We don't need no babies running around here until I'm at least eighty!" He states waving a finger in the air.

I nod my head my head shooting a glare over towards Sophia who has a smug look on her face. I shook my head.

Seriously? Cause all this all because I don't think your guy is cute? God you're so petty.

My grandpa shakes his head rubbing his hands together looking over towards Sophia who still had that smug look on her face.

"Wipe that smug look off your face missy, don't think I don't know about you and that paper boy."

Sophia's mouth drops open making it my turn to have the smug look as she stares at our grandpa in disbelief as he and my grandma leave the living room and back to wherever they were.

Once they were out of ear shot I couldn't hold back the laughter anymore and I let it lose.

"Damn, karma really is a bitch."

School went by fast the next day and next thing I know, it was already time for me to meet up with Mr. Everett for his help.

I was nervous because I wasn't exactly sure we were going to be tutoring today since we already went over three chapters in the unit and we were only five chapters in.

Were we going to be ending our tutoring sessions then?

I hope not, I know I've only had three sessions with him but I liked being tutored by him. He really made sure I understood what I was learning and he smelt good, like rain and mahogany wood.

"Good afternoon Maria, how was your day?" Mr. Everett asks me as soon as I walk into his classroom a smile on his face as he erases what was written on the white board.

"It was alright, I learned some very interesting things that will be pointless in the future." I exclaim making him laugh.

His laugh sends butterflies down my stomach and I fidget in my seat as I watch him erase what was left on the board before turning around clapping his hands.
