"Hinata, now!" Tanaka called. The ginger ran quickly and jumped into the air, smacking the ball into the ground. "Woo!" He cheered for himself. "Dumbass! Next time warn me when you jump!" His partner in crime, Kageyama, barked angrily. "We got the point, relax!"
"In a practice match!"
"Oh shut up you—""
"SHUT. UP." The boys paused and slowly looked over at their team captain, Daichi. "Or you're doing laps for ten minutes!" They gulped. "Yes, sir.."
"Relax Suma-san~," Sugawara patted the captains back and gave the boys a look. "Let's just continue."
Kiyoko flipped the board, and the game continued. Nishinoya huffed and dived into the ground, scooping up a ball. His friend Asahi cheered and ran to the net, signaling he was going to spike.
As the game continued, Hinata lost focus and somehow found his way to the back. He shakily received a ball coming at him and seemed to... vibrate? Coach Ukai noticed this rather quickly and called a timeout.
"C'mere Hinata," Ukai waved him over. Hinata jogged over lightly. "What's up coach?"
"You look pale kid, why don't you sub out—"
That was the most preposterous thing he could've said. "No way! I wanna play!" Hinata couldn't help it, but he sounded like he was whining. "Are you not taking care of yourself, bastard?!" Kageyama growled at him. "I am!! I promise, I'm totally fine!"
Even though he probably was, Kageyama didn't believe it. "Well I'm not gonna send you anything until you're better."
"What?!" Hinata yelled and grabbed the other boys collar. "Send me your sets, idiot! I want to play!"
"Both of you relax!" Ukai separated them. "Ginger you're benched. Kageyama get back on the court." The setter scoffed and did as he was told. Meanwhile Hinata sat down and tried tapping his foot. Huh? It feels stiff. Maybe it's sore.. he tried to roll his ankle but it felt like a rock. "What the heck?"
"What's wrong?" His teammate Ennoshita sat closer to him and checked his leg. "My ankle is sore or something, I guess." Ennoshita crouched and felt the youngers ankle with his finger. "Does it hurt when I touch it?"
"No..I don't even feel you." Hinata admitted. Ennoshita looked up. He pinched the decoys skin. "You don't feel that?"
"No," he said again. The second made a worried face. "Can you walk??"
"I mean yeah," Hinata sighed, "what's wrong? Can I not play anymore??"
Of course that's what he's worried about, Ennoshita thought. "Maybe you sprained it? Just rest it and go easy on it for now. If it hurts let one of us know okay Hinata?" The ginger nodded and the two proceeded to watch the game.
The final score was 24-25, Sugawara's team winning. Then again, most of the upperclassmen were on that team. Hinata was bouncing his legs; it was unbearable being on the sidelines. Kageyama strode over and looked him up and down. "What's wrong with you?" He asked flatly.
"Ennoshita- senpai said I have a sprain," Hinata shrugged and got up. "Oh." Kageyama looked at his leg. "Dude, are you wiggin?"
"Of course I am! I'll be better tomorrow!" The decoy challenged loudly. "Clean up!" Takeda- sensei yelled to the boys.
Hinata was about to go help but his teammate stopped him. "Dumbass! If you hurt your leg more, you won't play! Idiot." He shoved Hinata back onto the bench and walked off to help put the net away. "Ughhhhhh," he whined. "Kageyama is so mean.."
Once cleanup was done, the group of boys left. Yamaguchi crept up behind Hinata and tapped his shoulder. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine!" Hinata assured. His ankle felt like it was asleep now, and heavy. "I know I'm kinda rude but if Tsukki says anything out of line, let me know. I wouldn't wanna be teased if I was injured." Yamaguchi shot him a smile and caught up with his taller friend. But I'm not injured... I'm fine.
...
The bike back home took longer than expected. He had to walk, seeing as he leg was useless for biking up the hills back to his home. He was sweating more than usual, also; it was a nice 80°, which was odd to be sweating in. Natu noticed this straight away. "Shoyo?" She peaked into his room as he was rubbing his shin. "Yeah?"
"Did you get hurt during practice today?" She asked, coming in. "No, I'm okay, don't worry," he smiled at his sister and let go of his leg. "It's probably just strained."
"Are you sure? Mommy's taking me to the doctor tomorrow, you can come—"
"I'm okay! Please don't worry," he bowed slightly and started to situate himself for homework. Natsu frowned and left.
