12. The Breakfast Club

I groaned, reaching for my phone. What on Earth could be so important so as to interrupt my wonderful Chris Evans dream? I knew I shouldn't have ignored the voice in my head last night that told me to put it on silent mode.

The caller ID said Shawn.

"Of course," I muttered in annoyance. A part of me wanted to ignore it and continue with my fantasy but I answered anyway.

"What?" I snapped.

I was not a morning person.

"Well good morning to you too Sunshine," he said. I could picture him smirking on the other side of the phone. "Don't tell me you've forgotten about today."

"What?" I asked.

"Detention Princess."

I groaned again. I forgot today was Saturday.

"Do we have to?" I whined.

He chuckled. "You did re-enact the Lion King scene with that girl's forehead."

"Because you told me to."

"I have poor judgement Michaels, haven't you figured that out yet?"

I rolled my eyes despite the fact that he couldn't see me.

"We'll be there to pick you up in thirty, so go get ready," he said.

"Wait, we?"

"Just get ready," he said and hung up.

I reluctantly hauled myself out of bed and into the bathroom.

Thirty minutes would be enough time to get ready if I didn't move like a zombie in the morning. Nevertheless, I quickly washed my face and brushed my teeth. I pulled out the first things I saw in my closet, a black Led Zeppelin t-shirt and faded blue denim shorts, and threw them on. I put on a pair of white sneakers and let my hair down before looking at myself in the mirror.

"Good enough," I shrugged.

"Khay your friends are here!" Emily shouted from downstairs.

Right on time. I picked up my phone and a purse before going downstairs.

"You gonna be okay?" I asked my sister when I reached the door.

"Yeah, I'm going over to Pam's in a few hours," she answered, sitting down in front of the tv.

Nodding, I stepped out of the house and saw Shawn leaning on the side of a grey van.

"I don't think this is how kidnapping works," I joked.

"I'll do better next time," he remarked. "In you go."

I smiled and climbed in, surprised to see all my friends inside.

"Not sure when we agreed to carpool but I'm not complaining," I said.

I took a seat beside Shayley and Shawn got in and sat beside me.

"We good?" Jacob asked from behind the wheel. Shawn gave him a thumbs up and we hit the road.

"Hey, who's van is this anyway?" I asked.

"My uncle's," Jacob answered. "I borrow it from time to time."

"Like when he's the designated chauffeur," Liam grinned.

Jacob only shook his head and kept driving. We got to the school and met Principal Rivers in front of the cafeteria.

"Oh look, it's the Breakfast Club," he remarked sarcastically.
