3. You Eat Like A Pig
"Blue or pink?" Jessica asked Shayley and I.
It was Saturday and were at our favorite store, coping with the hustle and bustle of the mall on a Sunday afternoon.
"Have you even checked the price tag?" I asked with a sigh.
"Nope," she replied. "It's depressing."
Ah yes, Zoey's. The clothes there were drop dead gorgeous yet the prices could give a person a heart attack. We still loved to come here and just try on clothes though. We most of the time bought things when they were on sale or had a discount. The store manager liked us, so she didn't get mad when we wandered around for a long time without buying anything.
"I'm hungry," Shayley said, voicing my thoughts. "Why don't we go get some food?"
Jessica and I agreed without a word, and we made our way to the food court. As usual, Jessica being the healthiest of us got herself a salad as usual. I admired her for it, but I don't think I could live on greens like she did.
"These are some good fries," I said, doing my happy food dance.
"You eat like a pig you know that?" Shayley said as she used a paper napkin to wipe a little ketchup off the corner of my lips.
"Why thank you," I grinned.
Just then the door opened and a few guys from the football team came in. I didn't see Kyle though, much to my disappointment. Austin was with them and began to make his way towards us once he spotted us.
"Hey," he said, taking a seat beside Jessica. He looked at me. "You eat like a pig you know that?"
"Hey, that's what I said," Shayley laughed.
I said shrugged. "A girl's gotta eat, deal with it."
The door opened again, and this time around Kyle walked in. I hated that I could never keep my eyes off him.
"You know I could just talk to him for you right?" Austin chuckled once he noticed I was staring.
"No thanks," I replied. I wasn't exactly shy of Kyle or anything. I just liked him...a lot and I didn't want to say or do anything stupid.
Okay maybe I was a little shy, but who wouldn't be around their crush?
"Hey Kyle! Over here man!" Austin shouted.
I glared at him, but there wasn't enough time for me to protest or simply remove myself from the situation before Kyle came over.
"Sup?" he greeted Austin as they did their guy handshake or whatever. "Hey Khalan," he added.
He singled me out! I repeat, he singled me out!
"Hi," I replied, smiling like an idiot.
Shayley chuckled and nudged me. "Khay?"
"Hm?" I said absent-mindedly.
She wiped my face again and my eyes widened in embarrassment. Of course there's ketchup on my face.
"Khalan was just telling me how great you were in the game last Friday," Austin said, changing the subject.
"Yup, totally," Jessica added.
I hated them all.
"You think so?" Kyle asked me.
"Well yeah, you were," I replied, trying to hide the urge to murder my friends.
We sat there in awkwardness for a few seconds.
"So, we better get going," Austin motioned towards the rest of the team. I'm guessing he sensed the awkwardness too.
"We're still on for tonight right?" he asked and I nodded.
"Later," Kyle said as they both left.
"He totally likes you," Shayley said.
"Shut up," I said and took another sip of my soda.

"You'll thank me later," Austin said as we were watching a movie in my room.
He was talking about earlier that day, with Kyle. I nagged him as usual about putting me in awkward situations like that.
"So, excited for your lesson on Monday?" he asked playing with the locks of my hair.
I shifted my head and rested it more comfortably on his lap. "With Shawn? I honestly don't know."
"It may not be as bad as you think," he said.
I shrugged. "I guess we'll just have to wait and see won't we?"
"Have you even spoken to the guy before?"
I paused for a second, remembering his chiseled face, dark hair, and striking blue eyes.
"Yeah," I said softly. "He's-"
"Knock knock," a voice came from behind my door. It was Charlie.
"Come in," I shouted.
"You guys may wanna head downstairs, the food's here," he said and left.
We both made our way into the kitchen and Austin grabbed me a plate as I sat down.
"So what's this tutoring thing Austin's mentioned?" my dad asked.
I sighed. "I'm basically being forced to tutor some guy."
"You don't sound happy about it," Charlie chuckled.
I shrugged. "We're not exactly friends and I don't think he likes me very much."
"You know who likes you? K-ow!"
That was Austin groaning in pain once I kicked his shin to shut him up.
"Who?" Charlie asked.
"Can we just focus on the food and not my life?" I said.
"Don't have to tell me twice," Emily chuckled.
We finished eating and Austin and I returned to my room to finish the movie we were watching. In a few minutes we both got tired.
"We'd better get some sleep," he said.
I didn't argue. I went into my bathroom to brush my teeth and change into my pajamas. When I got back Austin was already in a shirt and sweatpants like he wore whenever he stayed over. He got onto my bed before I could tell him to sleep on the floor and I climbed into my bed beside him, switching off the lights before I got in. I didn't really mind though. I trusted him.
"Night Austin," I mumbled.
No reply. He was already asleep. I lay awake however, tossing and turning. I got out of bed so I wouldn't wake Austin and went over to sit at my desk. I picked up my laptop and for some reason searched up Shawn. I guess I wanted to know more about the guy I'd be tutoring. I only pulled up a few social media posts, but other than that there wasn't a lot to find out. He must be a private person.
My phone buzzed beside me and my heart nearly stopped when I saw who had texted me.
Kyle had my number because we'd been lab partners back in sophomore year. That was how I started to like him anyway. We said hi to each other at school, but we'd never really been on the 'friends who text each other' level. Which was why this surprised me.
I quickly sent a reply and nervously waited for him to text me back. A couple of minutes later my phone buzzed again, and a stupid grin found its way to my face.
Maybe I didn't need to sleep after all.
