My senses were awake much before I opened my eyes.
I could feel the cool morning air on my skin. I could hear the soft swishing of the curtains at the window, could feel the little rays of sunshine that escaped, on my face.
I opened my eyes.
And saw the most beautiful woman on the other side of the bed, softly snoring away the morning.
Her hair was like a curly hallo around her head. Her long eyelashes were gently resting on her cheeks. Her pink lips were slightly open. The blanket reached halfway down her torso as she peacefully slept. My heart squeezed painfully.
She's so beautiful.
I reached out my hand to tuck a curl behind her ear when suddenly I noticed a little bundle between shifting restlessly.
I look down to find the little bundle's blue-green eyes wide open and staring straight into my eyes. With a little jolt I withdrew my hand, only to place it on our little daughter's blanket covered belly as she wiggled restlessly
"mmaah tatataa..." she babbled quietly.
"Well, adequate morning to you too."
"Mmh Gahh!" She exclaimed with a bright smile spreading her arms out towards me.
"Looks like someone's got her father's punctual habit ", I said with a small twitch of my lips .
She moved her lips silently, staring very intently at my lips, trying to repeat what I'm saying I presume. My heart gave an excited thud.
"Are you trying to speak little one?"
"A-tatatata! Hmm-ah! "
"Indeed?"
"Yayayayaa mmh...", she reached out an touched my nose, ......and gradually moved her hand until it reached my ear,...... and then grabbed it with her tiny hands and pulled!
"Arg ow! Just like your mother aren't you!"
In response she gave a cheeky grin that looked suspiciously similar to a certain ifrit I know.
When I glanced up to check on the above mentioned ifrit, her eyes were wide open and twinkling with amusement. Amusement at my expense!
"Good morning dicky darling. I see you've received a lovely good morning from your daughter", she giggled and looked down to find an excited baby babbling energetically and reaching out to her mother.
I gave an annoyed huff at the never-changing nickname. Someday! Someday I will make her pay for it! (Even though it makes me feel all warm and nice inside)
My wife reached out and picked up our excited daughter, lifted her over her face and blowed into her little belly.
"Hello to you too my wittle chipmunk!", she spoke in her baby-talking voice.
The baby's joyful laughs and squeals echoed in the room. I looked at them both, My entire world; My heart and felt a tugging sensation in my chest.
This is what it feels like? To have a family?
"Mrs Ambrose?....Lillian?"
"Yes darling?"
She looked at me with a twinkle of happiness in her eyes, and our baby in her arms. So happy.... I'm so happy.
"I love you"
She smiled.
"I love you too"
