Today is finally the birthday of the world's most amazing best friend and I am absolutely excited. She doesn't want a party and we respected her decision and didn't throw her one but we are all hanging out at her house later and I want to go give her my gift before anyone else does.
I already facetimed her as soon as midnight struck and told her how much I love and appreciate her without actually using the word love. I'm not exactly the most affectionate person out there, but she understands exactly what I mean even when I don't say it.
It's 7 in the morning and Art is probably still asleep, but I intend on changing that so I walk over to her house to give her my gift. I have been saving all my money for months because she deserves nothing if not the best so I really hope she likes it.
I get the spare key from their trusty hiding spot, open the door and walk in only to see her sitting there stuffing her face with cake.
"Thought you were still sleeping." I say confused walking over to their cupboards and taking out a plate.
"Mom woke me up before going to work. Wanted to wish me a happy birthday first." she says.
I love Art's mother. She is this melodramatic, which goes without saying she named her daughter after a goddess for crying out loud, she's brutally honest and hilarious and I envy the bond that her and Art have because I could never have that with my mother.
Artemis cuts me a nice big slice of cake and we just sit there eating her cake making shit ass jokes before she asks where her gift is.
I take the box out of the backpack I had been carrying and she open it up to see purple tissue paper.
"Purple. That's a good start." she says.
Purple is Art's favourite colour, but that's not what the purple is about in this cause.
She takes it out and is greeted by two boxes so I tell her to open the smaller one first.
She takes off the wrapping paper from the first box and looks at me with tears filling her eyes before lunging forward and hugging me. I tense up at first before relaxing and awkwardly patting her on the back with one hand.
Art and I never hugged each other. Neither of us were all that touchy so it was an unsaid unwritten mutual understanding that we never invade each other's personal space like this.
"You like it?" I ask and she smiles at me while nodding yes.
"I love it, thank you." she says taking the pendant from the box.
I had it made for her. The pendant has a BTS logo on it since my best friend is a raging ARMY and a Namjoon stan.
I put it on her neck before she goes back to the box to open box #2.
"It's going to be incredibly hard to top this." she says and I shrug. " I can try." I tell her.
She basically throws the box onto the couch as if she saw a rat before picking at up and looking at me again. Artemis punches me in the arm. HARD.
"What the fuck was that for?" I basically scream. That shit fucking hurt.
"Are you fucking insane?" she yells back at me. "How much did this cost you?"
"A single dollar on eBay." I tell her and she takes a threatening step closer to me and I take one back.
"That's not important, okay? You deserve it." I tell her and she takes a step back.
"Well, I am pretty awesome." she shrugs picking up the phone.
BTS had this... collaboration? with Samsung and they sold these phones. Art wanted one but they're shit expensive and got sold out really fucking quick. SO I got it off some weird girl who buys merchandise but keeps them all unopened so they "don't lose their worth" or something like that. She also said she's not weird she's "a collector" or whatever.
"But you're not getting me anything for Christmas." my best friend says pointing the phone at me like it's a weapon and I nod, mostly because I'm afraid of what will happen if I don't.
"Or my next birthday, Jeezus Christ, Tommy." she says still trying to process.
"Whatever you want, I just want some ice cream right now." I tell her and walk toward their fridge.
"It's 8 in the morning." she says. Little miss judgy.
"We literally just ate cake." I tell her before taking out the ice cream and getting a spoon.
"You make a good point."
We watch some mindless television for about two hours before she gets in the shower. Everyone else is going to be here soon and she's still in pyjamas.
Someone knocks on the door and I immediately know it's Liam because all our other friends just barge in, no one else knocks.
"Enter." I say like some badass in a movie and he comes inside.
"Miss. Scott." he says immediately getting it and letting me live out my fantasy, however childish it may seem.
"Take a seat." I instruct and he does.
"Where's the birthday girl?"
"Shower."
"What'd you get her?" he asks curiously.
"A coffee mug with my face on it that says world's greatest friend." sarcasm thick in my tone and he rolls his eyes at me.
"What did you get her?" I ask and he raises one eyebrow when I do.
"A vibrator." he responds returning my sarcastic energy.
"Shit, I should've thought of that." I curse myself and he laughs.
Art comes out of the bathroom in a robe with a towel on her head and Lee basically jumps her and tells her to open his gift.
"Can I get dressed first?" she asks and he shakes his head pouting like a little kid.
"Just open it then you can go." he pleads and she gives in removing the white tissue paper from the bag and looking in to see whatever he got her. She smiles and says "Thank you." making half a heart with one of her hands and turning toward her bedroom.
"Wait, what is it?" I ask and she opens her mouth to say something, but Lee stops her, "Don't tell her." she nods and I make a loud groaning noise.
My phone vibrates in my pocket so I check and it's a text.
Art <33
a photo album with pictures of the three of us.
I smile at it before looking up at Liam. "Please tell me what it is?" I ask making puppy dog eyes but he just flips me off.
he knows. he knows, and I know he knows.
